MAC Chenman Love & Water: Mineralize Eyeshadow Duos

on
Thursday, March 1, 2012

Today, MAC released a new collection in collaboration with Chinese fashion photographer, Chenman. This collection, entitled Chenman Love and Water, features 18 products in total, 10 of which are limited edition. There are three limited edition shades of Mineralize Eyeshadow released with this collection, two of which are re-promotes. Each duo features the two shades of eyeshadow in the shape of a yin yang symbol. Each Mineralize Eyeshadow comes in a regular black compact with special edition secondary cardboard packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $24.

Love Cycle

Love Cycle

Love Cycle features a light-medium silvered blue and a dark royal blue, both with a metallic shimmer-sheen. These is a re-promoted duo from 2008's Electroflash (it was called Sea & Sky), and is limited edition. The texture of both shades is soft and smooth, and they both have high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. There is some fall-out due to the amount of glitter, but it is minimal. When used wet, both shades become more intense and look more metallic. The lighter blue shade is darker than Moon's Reflection; the dark royal blue shade is like a darker, metallic version of Atlantic Blue.

Pink Union

Pink Union

Pink Union features a medium muted pink-mauve and a medium-dark violet purple, both with a metallic shimmer-sheen. This duo is new and limited edition. The texture of both shades is soft and smooth, and they both have high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. There is some fall-out due to the amount of glitter, but it is minimal. When used wet, both shades become more intense and look more metallic. The mauve-plum shade is more pink than Shale; the violet purple shade is less blue than Parfait Amour.

Supersweet

Supersweet

Supersweet features a medium muted taupe-brown and a medium cotton candy pink with gold pearl, both with a metallic shimmer-sheen. These is a re-promoted duo from 2008's Electroflash (it was called Pink Split), and is limited edition. The texture of both shades is soft and smooth, and they both have high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. There is some fall-out due to the amount of glitter, but it is minimal. When used wet, both shades become more intense and look more metallic. The taupe-brown shade is more brown than Sable; the pink shade is like Swish with gold shimmer.

All of these duos have excellent colour pay-off, soft and smooth textures, and are really easy to work with. They look even and pigmented both dry and wet. However, I was really disappointed to see MAC recycle two older duos, re-name them, and market them as completely new shades. If you like Mineralize eyeshadows, these are worth checking out, but check your stash to see if you have either of the two re-promotes here.

    1. LOL, it was MEANT TO BE. If you like more natural/neutral colours, Supersweet is really nice. :)

    2. Hey, if they ever showed my Korean name on a makeup, I'd buy like 10 of them!

Love Cycle is very beautiful, actually.

    3. LOL, true story. It's about time they did an Asian collaboration, actually...

It's really too bad that the pretty packaging is secondary. :( Like, what am I gonna do with all these pieces of pretty cardboard?

    4. Good question! Do you ever keep the boxes? I keep some Chanel/Dior boxes just in case but tend to toss the rest out. Some people save everything!

    5. I actually do keep the boxes... in a drawer for secondary cardboard packaging, lol! And I never look at them again. Perhaps I'll create a collage one day...

  3. Love Cycle is really gorgeous!! And I think it's kind of annoying how MAC re-names certain shades. Totally lazy.

    1. It's SUCH a pet peeve of mine. Like, it's one thing to re-promote shades -- MAC does it all the time, and that's fine, because it gives a new set of MAC fans to try older products or for older fans to buy product they had missed out on before... But to just re-name a product and market it as NEW? That's just... shameful!
