(Warning: This post is long and extremely photo-heavy.)
My BTS BE Deluxe Edition album arrived today!!! (Amazon does not play around. It shipped out last night and arrived this afternoon.) And now I understand why this is their most expensive album to date (yes, $66 CAD plus tax).

BTS BE Deluxe Edition Album — Photobooks
So it's well-known that BTS designed this entire album themselves, from the photoshoots to the packaging to the contents. And man, they did a fucking good job because for the first time ever, they included not just one photobook, but two. The first one is, of course, the traditional photobook with perfect binding, which I really missed from Map of the Soul: 7. It just doesn't feel like a complete BTS album without the photobook.

The second photobook is made in the style of a tearable notepad so that you can actually remove the photos individually without ruining the book. I'm really glad they finally did this (it only took 7 years) so that we can actually remove and frame the photos without ruining the integrity of the packaging or the photos (like tearing out pages from magazines is usually a nightmare for fear of ripping part of the actual image). Their way around this previously was to use a binder (which means there's holes on the side of the page) or having loose-leaf photos like they did for Map of the Soul: 7, but using really cheap, thin paper so the images came out extremely grainy and weren't fully opaque when framed. Whoever made this decision for this album is brilliant. (Only problem now is that there's about 50 photos in there and I want to frame all of them but I don't have enough room on my walls.)

They included a smaller booklet called "Making Book," which features behind-the-scenes photos they took with film cameras and random scribbles and ramblings that they wrote on notepads.

Of course, the requisite photocards. They decided to include a full set of photocards this time around, probably because they knew there was only going to be one edition of this album. (Which is probably another reason why this album is double the price of one of their other albums.) Previously, they would include one randomized member photocard in each album, so you'd have to buy multiple albums to collect different members' cards. (This worked when there were multiple editions of an album, of course, so each album featured a different concept as well and it wasn't like you were just buying albums for the photocards alone.) These photocards feature all of them lying on a couch in their respective self-designed rooms, with the word "BE" written on the back in their own handwriting. They also added a cute little Polaroid-style photo card of a group image that RM took (you can see him squeezing the shutter trigger!).

Now, this album came with seven postcard photos as well. I can only assume that each photo was taken by a different member. Each postcard features a different subject that I'm guessing reflects each members' style. (There's actually one that features leaves which upon first glance, I totally thought was marijuana, but realized was just leaves sitting on a piece of wood. There are no photo credits on these postcards, but I'm pretty sure this leafy photo is Namjoon's.) I initially thought they wanted to include these postcards just for fun, but there's actually a purpose for them. In the unit that holds the actual CD, there's a large cut-out on the front. On the flip side is a little pocket that fits exactly one postcard, so you can actually interchange these postcards to get different album designs. Oh, and the CD itself actually features a group portrait that V took (you can see him squeezing the shutter trigger in this one). I think this whole concept is adorable. Seriously, who else putting this much thought into Digipaks?

Finally, we have two big fold-out posters. The first one is double-sided. One side features the tracklist and the lyrics of each song, all hand-written by all the members (complete the little doodles all over the page). The flip side is a black and white behind-the-scenes photo, and their individual thank you messages. Love that they decided to try this new concept — normally, the lyrics and thank you messages are included at the back of the photobook, but I love that they were able to be more creative on how to make them stand out more. The individual handwriting is a beautiful touch, too. (Whoever wrote the lyrics for "Dynamite" has wonderful penmanship!) The second fold-out poster is, of course, the requisite group shot poster.

And yes, that was the full unboxing of the BTS BE Deluxe Edition album, which is, by far, the most jam-packed album I have ever seen in my life, let alone a BTS album. And yes, if you're wondering, I did order two copies. One of them, my original pre-order from Weverse that includes an extra gift (as if the album didn't come with enough content), is still waiting to be shipped from Seoul. But I thought I'd support BTS on the Canadian Billboard charts, too. 😌💜
