MAC Fall Colour: Eyeshadows

MAC released a new collection yesterday called Fall Colour, featuring artist Cindy Sherman in three distinct looks on the promotional displays. Fall Colour is a very large collection with the release of 48 products, and is the third collection to launch in September (along with Posh Paradise and Styledriven). There are five shades of eyeshadow released with this launch: Shock-a-holic, Blue Candy, Royale, Three Ring Yellow, and Passionate (not pictured above because I have it from a few years ago). Each eyeshadow comes in regular black packaging, contains 1.5 grams, and retails for $18. They are applicable for the Back To MAC recycling program at MAC Stores only (not partnered locations).

Shock-a-holic, Blue Candy, Royale, Three Ring Yellow, and Passionate

Shock-a-holic is a medium-dark purple with very subtle magenta micro-shimmer in a Satin finish. It is a re-promoted shade from last year's Dare To Wear collection, and is limited edition. The texture on this is quite dry, so it goes on really patchy and uneven. The colour pay-off is decent, but it takes quite some work to get it to look smooth because of the texture. It is slightly lighter and less red than Fig. 1.

Blue Candy is a bright medium blue with very subtle blue micro-shimmer in a Satin finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. The texture on this was smooth, soft, and silky, with great colour pay-off. It is very slightly lighter and less cyan than Electric Eel, but they're very similar.

Royale is a medium-dark blue-violet in a Matte finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. The texture on this was smooth but a little powdery (and not nearly as soft as Blue Candy), with good colour pay-off. It is much more purple than Atlantic Blue, and is darker and bluer than Cobalt.

Three Ring Yellow is a bright yellow with a chartreuse sheen in a Veluxe Pearl finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. The texture was smooth, buttery, almost dense, with fantastic colour pay-off, which is in-line with Veluxe Pearls. There is nothing really similar to this in the permanent line-up; it looks more chartreuse than a lot of the yellow shades (Chrome Yellow, Goldenrod, Bright Sunshine), and more yellow than a lot of the chartreuse shades (Sour Lemon, Bitter, Sunny Spot).

Passionate is a bright pinked red in a Matte finish. It is a permanent shade at MAC Pro. The texture on this is smooth and silky with phenomenal colour pay-off (it really seems like more of a Matte² finish than a straight-up Matte). It's soft so it blends really well, but not so soft that it's powdery. They really should make this permanent at all stores (it used to be before it became Pro-exclusive). There is nothing similar to this in the non-Pro permanent line-up. The most similar colour that comes to mind is Rani, which was released in January's Mickey Contractor collection, and is much more fuchsia than red.

If you like bright colours, these shades are definitely worth checking out. Shock-a-holic was the only disappointment of the bunch in terms of texture, though it really is a pretty shade. I do find that it works well blended on top of another powder eyeshadow, just not padded on bare skin or primer alone. The four other shades are total must-haves for bright colour lovers. And for those who love bright colours without shimmer, Blue Candy, Royale, and Passionate are absolutely stunning.
