MAC Nocturnals: Lip Gloss Set in Pink

Tomorrow, MAC will release a new collection called Nocturnals, which features a variety of mini sets and is the third and final part of MAC's Holiday 2013 offerings. The packaging of this year's holiday collections are inspired by the elegance and geometric designs of 1920s Art Deco, as well as the lavish lifestyles of the Studio 54 era. Nocturnals consists of seven kits, and sees the release of three new and limited edition lip gloss sets. Each lip gloss set features three shades of Cremesheen Glass and one shade of Dazzleglass. Cremesheen Glasses come with doe-foot applicators and Dazzleglasses come with brush applicators; both formulas are vanilla-scented but taste-free. They are housed in special edition tubes with black caps embellished with white and gold, and matching secondary cardstock packaging. Each lip gloss set contains a total of 9.6 grams of product, and retails for $38.50.

Dressed to Dazzle is a neutral pink-tinted clear base with white, gold, and pink glitter in the Dazzleglass formula. This is a re-promoted shade from 2011's Glitter & Ice collection, and is limited edition. The texture is lightweight but slightly tacky, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is similar to Sugarrimmed.

Fashion Scoop is a pale milky cool-toned pink in the Cremesheen Glass formula. This is a permanent shade. The texture is lightweight and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low pigmentation and sheer colour pay-off. It is more pinked than Paper Lantern, and much lighter than Pagoda.

Petite Indulgence is a medium brightened blue-based pink in the Cremesheen Glass formula. This is a re-promoted shade from 2009's Cremeteam collection, and is limited edition. The texture is lightweight and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low-medium pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It is lighter than Loud & Lovely, and cooler and brighter than Right Image.

Colour Saturation is a medium-dark vibrant berry red in the Cremesheen Glass formula. It is a re-promoted shade from 2012's Reel Sexy collection, and is limited edition. The texture is lightweight and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has low-medium pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It is brighter and more pink than Pop Mode Lipglass, much darker and more purple than Loud & Lovely.

The pink lip gloss set that MAC came out with this year is nothing terribly new or exciting — three of these shades are re-promotes and one of them is permanent — and, in fact, at least two of the shades have been released in previous holiday lip gloss sets. That having been said, I do appreciate the range in shades in this year's pink set, and the holiday lip gloss sets in general are always a really good value. The Dazzleglasses in these sets actually have more product than their full-size counterparts (2.4 g vs. 1.9 g), and the Cremesheen Glasses are actually full-size (2.4 g). In total, you are getting $98 worth of lip gloss for $38.50! If you like the formulas included in this set and you like at least two of the shades, it's definitely worth getting.
