My Sephora order arrived yesterday and along with it was my new tube of Scandal Queen Mascara ($28 CAD) by a Japanese company called Fairy Drops. This mascara's been getting a lot of hype here recently because it's only just been picked up by Sephora in North America. The reason for the hype is due to the brush, which is patented in Japan. The promise of this mascara is to increase volume and length but keeping them defined and clump-free, and to curl lashes so well that you won't even need to use an eyelash curler. Now, I've tried tons of mascaras over the years, some that are deemed "classics" and some that are the latest fads. And truly, this is probably the most unique brush I've seen so far, which means every other cosmetics company will soon be making imitations of it. But does it work?
Well, I'd have to say that it does volumize and lengthen pretty well, but it does have a tendency to clump because of the fibres, so a lash separator is in order here. The beauty in this mascara, though, is the curl factor. Now, I never put on mascara first without curling my lashes with my Shu Uemura curler (I have straight Asian lashes). While mascara never makes my lashes fall flat after curling, I do find that most will weigh them down so that they will be less curled as the day goes on. I couldn't tell you if this mascara will replace a lash curler because I curled mine beforehand, but I will say that it kept them curled throughout the entire day (even the "droopers" at the ends), as if I had just freshly curled them, which I have yet to find with any other mascara. It must be noted that I have naturally long lashes, but this mascara truly does make them look like I'm wearing false ones. I like to put on three coats because I want more volume, but one coat would be perfect for a more natural look. This won't replace Lancôme Hypnôse as my favourite mascara, but I would definitely re-buy it.
Rimmel Sexy Curves has a similar brush shape, but it has silicone bristles!
ReplyDeleteIt's quite good for a drug store mascara.
But you ALWAYS look like you're wearing falsies! You and your damn long lashes! *shakes angry fist*
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for the review -- I'm gonna check the Sephora near work to see if they have it. My L-shaped lashes need help!
I've used it, but I hate silicone/plastic/rubber bristles. That alone changes the entire way mascara applies on lashes, regardless of the shape. I'd wear a drugstore mascara regularly if I found one that I really, truly love... But I have yet to find it.
ReplyDeleteLOL, Sydney! I don't think this mascara is available in-store yet. It might only be online at this point. :(
