Sam Woo Seafood Restaurant

Met up with my relatives this evening for our big annual Chinese New Year feast at our old stand-by, Sam Woo Seafood Restaurant. (Seriously, my family goes there for pretty much every occasion, 'cause it's my grandma's favourite and, you know, grandma's the boss.) Apparently, Chinese people hate cooking at home, 'cause it was packed with a line-up out the door from the time we got there until the time we left. We had a total of 11 courses tonight, and suffice it to say, I was really, really full by the time dessert rolled around.

Roasted pork with crispy skin and jellyfish noodles

Preserved scallops and oysters with Chinese cabbage and black moss

Stir-fried prawns with Chinese broccoli

Shark fin soup with crab meat

Braised baby abalone with baby bok choy

Stir-fried crab with ginger, garlic, and scallions

Pan-fried pigeon with salt and lemon

Steamed white fish with ginger and spring onions in soy sauce

Noodle soup with shredded ham and Chinese broccoli

Steamed glutinous rice with Chinese sausage

Dessert soup with red dates, white fungus, longan, lotus seeds, and black sesame dumplings

See you in the Year of the Snake!

    1. Thanks, Liz!

My year so far is proving to be equal parts good and bad. I got a giant paycheque 'cause of vacation payouts last week, plus quite a few lucky pockets, so it's been positively delightful financially... but then I got a cold and now I'm coughing up a lung and having a constant runny nose and intense sneeze attacks... My prediction for the Year of the Snake did say that it would be very fair overall. :P
