When I saw this shade from Deborah Lippmann's holiday collection, I knew I had to have it. I haven't been interested in any of the shades she's released since her Mirrored Chromes collection this past summer (and as pretty as they were, I wasn't in love with them). But as we all know, I am a fiend for pretty glitter polishes, especially Deborah Lippmann's (Across the Universe is solely responsible for this obsession). Liz gifted me a bottle for my birthday a couple weeks ago, and I could not wait to try it.
Cleopatra in New York (natural lighting)
Cleopatra in New York is a black jelly base with yellow gold round and hexagonal glitter. It has a thicker consistency that is common with chunky glitter polishes, but it doesn't hinder the application. It goes on smoothly and evenly, without any pulling, bubbling, or streaking. The jelly base has medium pigmentation, and will go opaque in three medium-thick coats. I can't think of any exact dupes for this, but if you have Lippmann's Shake Your Groove Thing, you can just layer it on top of any black cream polish and the effect will be the same. It's not a must-have at $22 a pop, but I really love the look of this polish, and I've gotten numerous compliments while wearing it. It's somehow edgy but still totally appropriate for the holidays. The perfect shade for New Year's parties!
I really like the look of the layered glitter - that black jelly finish is unique. On my wishlist!
ReplyDeleteI love it, too -- it reminds me of confetti and shrapnel and Chinese lacquered furniture, lol!
DeleteThis nail polish looks absolutely amazing. This will be on my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely super-fun for the holidays! :) Hope you get this!
DeleteGlad you like it! I don't regret not having it at all so obviously everything worked out for the best. :D
ReplyDeleteTaking off 3 layers of glitter has got to be a bitch though. Are you still using the acetone mix?
I LOVE THIS POLISH. You have no idea how many compliments I got on it!!! :D THANKS AGAIN!!!
DeleteYes, 100% acetone. Zoya's remover works, too, but it does take a bit more time. I use Shisedo cotton pads because they hold more product, and then I wrap them around each nail and wait for about two to three minutes. I do this one hand at a time, so it takes maybe 10 minutes to take it all off. :P
