We had just enough time to have a leisurely brunch before heading to the airport to fly back to Toronto this afternoon. It was raining pretty heavily, so we decided to head back to the Comore Yotsuya mall complex since it was right around the corner from our hotel and they have a dozen eateries in there (including Hanamaru Udon, where we had a late lunch yesterday). Since it was only 11:00AM, a lot of restaurants weren't open yet (which is very common in Japan), so we decided upon one of the few that were, a Japanese-Italian fusion chain restaurant called Spajiro.
Mentaiko Spaghetti with Salmon and Green Onion
Spajiro specializes in Japanese-style spaghetti dishes. I decided to go for the Mentaiko Spaghetti with Salmon and Green Onion. It was... okay. It's better in theory than in execution here, but I'm not sure if it has to do with the restaurant's recipe or the chef who made it because there was literally only one person working in the semi-open kitchen. Mentaiko has a strong salty flavour but it seemed way too muted here, like they didn't add nearly enough. The sauce could've been much richer — at the bottom of the bowl, I could see that too much broth was added to water it down. Plus, the portion of salmon was very small — I had actually expected it to be more integrated into the spaghetti rather than a small filet sitting on top. I suppose I can't complain too much about a pasta dish that's only ¥1,150. Still, when it comes to cod roe spaghetti, Tokyo Tarako Spaghetti does an infinitely better job.
