Hoshi: "Yes. Thanks to you, we have a lot more promotions in the States now."Suga: "How is that thanks to us? It's because Seventeen is so good."Hoshi: "But you really created the environment. Honestly, we were only able to go on American TV shows because of you."Suga: "No, it was because everyone did well in their own ways. I don't really think we did anything."Hoshi, adamant: "No. You need to know that you did. You created that environment for us. Everyone knows that the K-pop industry was able to advance into the States because of BTS."Suga: "But I think people got there based on their own talents. It was Seventeen's own skills and talents that got you there. I don't really think we had any part in that. I guess we opened it up a little, but what happened after that wasn't based on anything we did. We just opened the door a little."Hoshi, sputtering: "You- You- You did a lot more than just open the door!"Suga: "Nah, we didn't really. But thanks for saying that."Hoshi: "I bet everything thinks that, though."Suga: "Thanks for that. I'm really touched. Thank you for saying that."Hoshi: "But really. Everyone really does think that."Hoshi: "Since people have such high expectations for K-pop-"Suga: "I'm really sorry for everything we did to K-pop. We did a lot of things that we shouldn't have. Things like Bangtan Bomb on YouTube-"Hoshi: "Yeah, we did that, too!"Suga, sighing: "We started that."Hoshi: "Yeah, yeah, yeah!"Suga: "We did something like 'BTS Today' and posted group shots after schedules..."Hoshi: "Right, right."Suga: "I'm really sorry."Hoshi: "But still, the teams that are debuting now and even us, we were really influenced by BTS. I mean it."Suga: "I just feel really sorry."Hoshi, laughing: "But when I watch award ceremony performances, you really do have a lot to be sorry about."Suga: "I'm so sorry! We were just..."Hoshi: "Now all the teams have to do it!"Suga: "We were just trying really hard to do something... Back then, we felt that we had to do something, anything."
Loved this conversation. I don't know anything about Seventeen, but Hoshi seemed very sincere and awestruck — kind of what Suga was like with Taeyang — while Suga remains as humble and down-to-earth as ever. Love that Hoshi summed up the truth of K-pop's status today, though, because it's exactly what ARMY has known for years: BTS, indeed, paved the way.
