My Weverse Albums version of J-Hope's Jack in the Box has arrived!
Much like BTS' Digital Code box sets (e.g. BTS 2021 Muster Sowoozoo and BTS Season's Greetings 2022), this is like the digital code version of J-Hope's solo album. That is to say, there is no physical CD, but rather the physical artwork and a card with a QR code to get the album — in this case, on Weverse's new music app, Weverse Albums. As I am strictly an Apple Music/iTunes user, I got this purely as a memento, and I do think this is a great concept in general — you get the music digitally, but you still get a physical souvenir. However, as a collector, I do find it disappointing that Jack in the Box didn't come in a full physical album format.

The packaging of the Weverse Albums version of Jack in the Box is basically a folded card holder made out of glossy card stock. It comes in two randomized colours — turquoise and hot pink. As I ordered two for myself and my friend Iris, we actually ended up with one of each. I let Iris pick first as I was indifferent, so she chose pink and I got turquoise. The card holder is in the shape of a box (not to be confused with an actual 3D box — this card holder lays flat), and as you unfold the holder, you will find five items inside: two photocards (one that is included in every single album, and one that is randomized out of 2), two metallic Jack in the Box logo stickers, and a card with a QR code (+ user's guide) to download the album on Weverse Albums. For those who pre-ordered the album, a special gift is also included: a transparent PVC L-holder, a transparent PVC photocard, and a regular card stock photocard.

Still, I miss getting a photobook that always comes with BTS albums. It just doesn't feel complete without it.

Each digital code album costs $9.75 USD on Weverse Shop, which in itself is a steal — even without the physical album artwork, a digital album would already cost this much (usually $9.99 USD on iTunes). However, lest you forget, Weverse Shop uses DHL, which we all know commits highway robbery with every shipment. Indeed, the shipping fee to Canada cost $27.23 USD for two albums, with another $23.04 CAD in duties. That means that these "digital code" albums ended up costing us approximately $33 USD each, which is insanity for a card holder and a couple photocards. That having been said, major online retailers like Amazon are selling this at similarly expensive prices due to shipping as well, so it's a moot point.
