Unboxing: Artist-Made Collection by BTS — ARMYST Zip-Up Hoodie by Jungkook

The Artist-Made Collection by BTS was a curation of items designed by each of the seven members from concept to execution. Each member created two unique items, of which the processes are documented here. This collection was originally launched in January — each members' items had a staggered release over the course of three weeks. I've already written about how much frustration occurred in trying to acquire any of the pieces from BTS' Artist-Made Collection, so I won't rehash that here because it was quite a long diatribe, but my second piece from the collection arrived yesterday: Jungkook's ARMYST zip-up hoodie. This hoodie retailed for $125.41 USD, which is not unreasonable, but international shipping was a whopping $67.31 USD, which is highway robbery, and then duties and taxes were $40.97, which is highway robbery at gunpoint. Basically: DHL, I fucking hate you.

This zip-up hoodie comes with a white dust bag. The dust bag has the words, "Artist-Made Collection by BTS: Jungkook" on the front printed in black. The hoodie is folded neatly inside a large PVC pouch. This hoodie came in four different colour waves, but I chose black to, you know, match the rest of my wardrobe. However, this black is not really black, as it was specifically dyed in a way to look faded, so it's really more of a dark grey. The main feature of this hoodie, aside from the fact that it's designed by Jungkook, is that it is asymmetrical. This is exactly what drew me to this piece in the first place: I'd never seen anything like it. It is longer on the left side and cropped on the right side. The hems on the bottom and the sleeves are also all purposely cut to look frayed. It comes with an oversized hood (a blessing as I wear my hair up all the time and hoods never fit all the way over my head) and wide drawstrings. It's made with 100% cotton and comes with a two-way zipper, which is another nice touch in case you want to wear it as more of a cape than a hoodie.

Aside from the shape of the hoodie, the other major feature is the graffiti-style logo featuring the word "ARMYST" (ARMY + artist) that Jungkook drew. There is a small version of this logo on the front left chest and a big version of the logo on the back. On the black version of the hoodie, the logo comes in white. Some extra details include the BTS logo engraved on the zipper pulls and the word "ARMYST" engraved on the metal drawstring cord ends. All metal details on this hoodie are silver.

The hoodie also comes with a single brown paper envelope that has Jungkook's name written in his handwriting on the front. The first item in this envelope is a photocard of Jungkook wearing the final hoodie design on the front and the words, "ARMYST Zip-Up Hoody" on the back. And the second item is a "Making Log" fold out, which shows the entire process of making this hoodie in sketches and photos, from product planning to final review. This hoodie, like Suga's necklace, was one of my top 3 choices out of all the members' creations. I've always liked Jungkook's personal style because of its simplicity and comfort. This hoodie in particular is exactly my style: a little grungy, a little punk rock, oversized and comfortable, and totally unisex. And like all of the items that were created for this collection, it screams "BTS!" but in a way that isn't obviously to anyone but ARMY. Now I just have to wait until summer's over to wear it outside.
