Photolog 2021: Day 358 of 365

My brother and sister-in-law are flying in tomorrow from NYC so we'll be having big family meals all weekend. So tonight, obviously not wanting to cook and also wanting to take advantage of the fact that restaurants are still operational right now, I went with my mom and her friend to eat dinner at Dickens, a Hong Kong-style restaurant. (I hadn't realized that this is the same Dickens that I used to go to with my parents every weekend when I was a kid. They've revamped and moved to a newer, bigger location but it's still busy as ever, even 25 years later. A true testament to the quality of their food.)

Seafood fettuccine in lobster bisque

German pork knuckle

My mom and I shared the seafood fettuccine in lobster bisque and the German pork knuckle, which is served with gravy, rice, veggies, and pickled radish. The pasta was good, absolutely loaded with seafood, but there's a reason why every single table had ordered the German pork knuckle. Firstly, it is HUMONGOUS. You absolutely will not be able to finish it yourself, so share with someone or prepare to bring home leftovers. Secondly, the meat was so soft and tender and juicy that it quite literally fell off the bone and deemed the gravy unnecessary. (Though the gravy's pretty tasty, not gonna lie. Slathered it all over the veg and the rice.) Thirdly, the skin was so delectably crispy and ultra-flavourful that I forgot that I was eating pork hock. I have never had German pork knuckle before and I don't know any other restaurants that offer it around here, but it is INSANELY DELICIOUS and is at least 87 times better than Christmas turkey.
