First day of the year means busting out the new wall calendar, desk calendar, and planner. Because new year, fresh start, right?
2020 was, as I'm sure everyone will agree, a tumultuous year. A year of changes and hardships. I changed professions (not just the job itself, but the actual industry, too), became a homeowner and moved into my own condo, and really had to learn how to properly "adult." (If I thought I was adulting before, I did not know just how much more adulting I would have to learn.) This is, of course, not even mentioning the pandemic, which changed the way we all do things — perhaps forever. Some people didn't expect this pandemic to last this long, but it was already predicted that there would be multiple waves. (People that are still protesting their rights to following pandemic protocols like wearing masks? Please fuck off.)
I'm not one of those people who thinks that just because it's a new year, things will automatically get better. I'm not being pessimistic, just realistic. I really do hope that the vaccines that are rolling out all over the globe right now will be effective and that we see a drop in COVID cases, but I think the same basic pandemic protocols — wearing masks, sanitizing hands, social distancing, etc. — will remain for a long, long time. I'm keeping my expectations low for 2021 because I think it'll be more or less similar to 2020, but I'm being cautiously hopeful that people will smarten up and things will improve. If anything, BTS has shown us that you can make a ton of awesome, record-breaking lemonade when given some really shitty lemons.
So with that having been said, I wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy 2021!
