This week's Friday Five:
- In what way do you maintain a tidy and efficient workstation? It's actually kinda hard for me because I share the office with other managers and they can be quite messy. But generally, I try to file away old documents as soon as I see them, post new documents where they need to be (usually on the bulletin board and in the communications binder) as soon as they're printed, put binders and writing utensils back in their place immediately after I'm done using them, etc. I'm actually the neat one in the office.
- In what way do you maintain positive relationships with others? I take the time to try to get to know my staff. We don't work in a rigid, conservative, or office environment, so it's easier to be more personal with people.
- What effort do you take to be punctual? I time my routines, take traffic into account, and leave the house accordingly. But sometimes there are unforeseen circumstances like car accidents or road construction or detours or bad weather, and that can't be helped.
- What are your strengths and challenges in communicating effectively? I'm pretty straightforward and professional with communication, especially when I have to deliver a warning letter or HR is involved. It can be challenging if I have to deliver bad news to a staff member that I actually like because I have to walk that professional/personal line, but I make it known that I have to do my job as their boss.
- What will be your focus for growth in the coming year? I want to check out some new opportunities, maybe get into artist development and training. I think I've plateaued in the cosmetics retail sector.
