Went to my favourite uptown dessert place this rainy evening. Two lattes and three desserts shared between me and Chelsea:
  • Butterscotch bread pudding with honey cream cheese
  • White sesame crème brûlée
  • Lemon soufflé
This is a place that takes their time to ensure each dessert is of the best quality, and you can taste it in every bite. The bread pudding, a new item, is absolutely divine. It's crisp on the outside, and a kind of soft flakiness on the inside with the perfect chew; the butterscotch is not overwhelmingly sweet, but really sets it apart from your standard bread pudding with its caramelized flavour, and the honey cream cheese adds a delicate mellowness to temper the butterscotch. As I said, divine. The white sesame crème brûlée is also beautiful: the custard is gorgeously smooth, light, and creamy; the caramelized sugar a perfect golden brown, delicate and perfectly crisp; and the white sesame flavour is prominent and real (no artificial flavouring here). And, of course, their signature item: the soufflé. We chose lemon, but there is also vanilla and chocolate. Each one is made to order and takes 45 minutes (this is a place where you take your time to enjoy desserts; it's not for a quick sugar fix), which worked out as we made our way through the first two desserts. It has the perfect rise, a great top crust, and the most light, airy, fluffy texture on the inside. The lemon flavour is fragrant and delicate, and though you can get sauce with it, I prefer it on its own to really enjoy the flavour and texture.
