I recently got an e-mail from a concert promotion company for the Silversun Pickups playing in Toronto this month, which triggered me to start listening to their music again. I haven't really thought of or listened to them in a few years now; they're one of those bands that I've always enjoyed, but never really became one of my favourites. I love certain songs by them and will put those in playlists and play the shit out of them, but none of their albums as a whole have stood out to me. That might be why it took me so long to listen to their last record, Better Nature. It's still dark and moody, but there's a lusher, almost anthemic, synth-heavy '80s vibe to it that makes it addictive to listen to; Nikki Monninger sharing lead vocals on this record definitely adds a new, welcome dimension to their sound. I've been playing Better Nature on repeat for the last week because every single song is catchy as hell. So, yeah. Silversun Pickups has officially came back into my radar and I think they're here to stay.
