MAC Lorde: Pure Heroine Lipstick

Last week, MAC released their collaboration lipstick with Lorde. It is available online only. It is inspired by New Zealand singer-songwriter Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, known by her stage name Lorde. The lipstick is new and limited edition, and is named after Lorde's debut full-length album, Pure Heroine. It is being promoted with the Penultimate Eye Liner, which is permanent. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 g of product, and retails for $19. Due to its online exclusivity, it is not applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Pure Heroine

Pure Heroine

Pure Heroine is a dark brightened purple-plum in an Amplified finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is darker and more plum than Heroine, darker and more purple than Rebel, lighter and brighter than Cyber and Smoked Purple (PRO), and more purple than Media.

MAC was inspired by the dark purple lip that Lorde wears so frequently (which is actually a mix of several MAC products), which is why they made a similar shade for her collaboration lipstick. Whether or not you're a fan of Lorde, this lipstick is completely worth getting if you like dark purple or plum shades. There's nothing like it in MAC's permanent range, and it's not too dark or bright, nor does it lean particularly cool or warm, so it should suit everyone. Note that it will appear darker on fairer skintones, and brighter on darker skintones. Fans of shades like Rebel, Cyber, and Media will love this one. And before you think it's a dupe for Heroine, it's not. The name of this lipstick is reflective of Lorde's album, which coincidentally has the word "heroine" in it.

  1. I like it more than I thought I would! But eh, Amplifieds... :P I am picky, LOL. Maybe I should just dye my hair back, I could wear more lipsticks that way :P

    1. What! What's wrong with Amplifieds? I looooove Ampifieds. Creamy, pigmented, full colour pay-off. What's not to like?

LOL, it's true about the hair -- I have black hair, so I pretty much rock every colour. :P BUT your hair looks so awesome red.

  2. I think I'm going pure purple by fall/winter. Might kind of need this but not sure if the phase will last a few months or like a day, lol. And I'm a closet Lorde fan. At least, I don't turn to a different station when her songs are on the radio.

    1. LOL! I have such a love of purple lipsticks, it's kind of a sickness. :P

If you don't end up getting this (and it's online-only, so it's a pain in the ass to get in that sense), you can always mix Nightmoth Lip Pencil and Heroine together and get a similar colour. I actually think that's what Lorde's make-up artist uses on her!

Haha, why a closet fan? She's a great musician -- unique voice and excellent songwriter! :)

  3. I did not know that was her real name! I assumed it was just Lorde. Like me, there's no other person in the world with her exact name. I bet the lipstick names both with "Heroine" in it are going to confuse people. It's interesting it's not applicable for Back to MAC given that it's in regular packaging.

    1. Yeah, her name is a mouthful! I think she'll just be known as Lorde until the end of her career, lol.

And yes, a lot of people thought this lipstick was gonna be like Heroine. I guess they don't realize that Pure Heroine is the name of her album.

      And no B2M because it's online-only and B2M is an in-store service. :)

  4. I don't know why, but I hate shopping online. That's probably the only thing that stopped me from getting this lipstick. It is pretty, but it's a bit darker than I usually wear anyway.

    1. I love shopping online as long as shipping is free and I know exactly what I'm getting, lol. It's harder with make-up if you don't know what it's gonna look like in real life, so I know what you mean. Honestly, this lipstick looks like Nightmoth Lip Pencil and Heroine Lipstick mixed together, so if you ever wanted to dupe it with other MAC products, that's your go-to. :) If you don't like such a dark lip, you can always try Rebel Lipstick!
