Today, MAC released a new collection featuring a new lip product called Patentpolish Lip Pencil. It features "the colour and shine of a gloss, the precision of a lip pencil — all in one colour stick." The formula has a "unique blend of creamy emollients... keeping lips soft with an ultra-smooth texture that isn't heavy or sticky." It comes in twelve new and limited edition shades (two of which will not be reviewed here). Each Patentpolish Lip Pencil comes in mechanical "crayon" barrels, contains 2.3 grams of product, and retails for $24.

Kittenish, Patentpink, Spontaneous, Hopelessly Devoted, and Fearless

Kittenish, Patentpink, Spontaneous, Hopelessly Devoted, and Fearless

Kittenish is a light-medium muted neutral pink with a glossy sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is creamy and balm-like, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is similar to Lovelorn, lighter and less mauve than Hot Gossip, and slightly warmer than Speed Dial.
Patentpink is a light cool-toned lilac-pink with a glossy sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is creamy and balm-like, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is sheerer and warmer than Snob, cooler and glossier than Creme Cup, and lighter and cooler than Divine Choice Mineralize Rich Lipstick.
Spontaneous is a medium-dark reddened plum-pink with champagne shimmer and a glossy sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is creamy and balm-like, but it goes on somewhat patchy and unevenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is sheerer than Plumful, darker and brighter than Syrup, and more plum than Lustering.
Hopelessly Devoted is a medium-dark vibrant blue-toned fuchsia pink with a glossy sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is creamy and balm-like, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is less cool-toned than Lickable, glossier and sheerer than Girl About Town, and similar to Insanely It Sheen Supreme Lipstick.
Fearless is a medium brightened cool-toned cotton candy pink with a glossy sheen. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is creamy and balm-like, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is slightly darker and cooler than Lovelorn, brighter and cooler than Speed Dial, and warmer and more muted than Pink Nouveau.

Say hello to MAC's version of the Chubby Stick! It was only a matter of time before MAC jumped on this bandwagon, especially given that MAC and Clinique have the same mother company. There are some differences, however; in terms of pigmentation, the Patentpolish Lip Pencils lie somewhere between the regular Chubby Stick and Chubby Stick Intense. In general, these have medium pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. These also have a rounder, flatter tip so it applies more like a lipstick than a true pencil. In terms of texture, however, these feel and look a whole lot like the Huggable Lipcolours that came out in January — they have a lightweight, almost gel-like texture that feels like they cling on to the lip and have less slip, which helps the colour from bleeding. I also found that these have an almost "blurring" effect, smoothing out the texture of my lips completely so they look almost like glass. They're lightly hydrating and does get very slightly tacky over time, which I find helps a bit with the wear-time, which is about three hours at most. If you missed out on the Huggable Lipcolours in January or you're a fan of the crayon barrel-style lip products, these might be worth checking out.

  1. I popped in a MAC store to swatch some yesterday but I was in a rush so I didn't stop for anything. One of the SAs was wearing one, and she gave it to me to try one, and it looked much different on me than on her...so I was sad, hahaha.

    1. LOL. I always tell people to try things on because they look so different from person to person. Which one did you try? I still think Teen Dream would look delightful on you!

    2. Some cool pink - I didn't look at the name, LOL. On her it warmed up to this beautiful rose but on me it was like, bubblegum barbie and it looked TERRIBLE. I think Revved Up would be more what I was looking for!

    3. LOL! Fair enough. Maybe it was Patentpink, 'cause it has a lilac tone to it.

I've been wearing Revved up a LOT lately 'cause it just seems to go with everything. A nice, low-key shade. I've been in a peach mood lately, though. :P

  2. MAC should really think about making these permanent. They don't have anything like it and the colours are fabulous. I'd buy five and I don't even like buying lip products that much!

    1. LOL! I totally agree. Everyone's got lip crayons now, so I don't know why MAC released this as LEs. They should also make the Huggables permanent. <3
