MAC Archie's Girls: Lipglasses

Today, MAC released its collaboration collection with Archie Comics, called Archie's Girls. As the name implies, this collection is inspired by Betty and Veronica and their "epic love triangle" with Archie. This collection "captures the legendary rivalry of sweet blonde Betty and vivacious brunette Veronica" with "two contrasting colour collections." This collection is comprised of 32 products — 24 of which are new and limited edition, two of which are re-promotes, and six of which are permanent — and five collectable accessories (which will only be available online and at MAC Stores). Archie's Girls sees the release of six new shades of Lipglass, three for each Betty and Veronica. Lipglasses are vanilla-scented, and come with doe-foot applicators. Each Lipglass comes in a special edition clear tube with a white glossy lid featuring a comic-style design of either Betty or Veronica. They are packaged in special edition white glossy boxes featuring a comic-style design with the faces of Betty, Archie, and Veronica. Each Lipglass contains 4.8 grams of product, and retails for $20. Due to the special edition packaging, these are not applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Betty Lipglasses in Stay Sweet, Summer Sweetheart, and Kiss & Don't Tell

Betty Lipglasses in Stay Sweet, Summer Sweetheart, and Kiss & Don't Tell

Stay Sweet is a pale cool-toned milky pink. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. Due to the milkiness of the shade, it can settle into lip lines. It is lighter than Snob, and warmer than Saint Germain.

Summer Sweetheart is a light milky pinked peach. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with medium pigmentation and semi-sheer to semi-opaque buildable colour pay-off. Due to the milkiness of the shade, it can settle into lip lines. It is darker and more pinked than Florabundance, and more pigmented than Double Happiness Cremesheen Glass.

Kiss & Don't Tell is a medium vibrant pink-coral. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is more darker and coral than Viva Glam Nicki, and more pink than Lychee Luxe.

Veronica Lipglasses in Strawberry Malt, Mall Madness, and Feelin' So Good

Veronica Lipglasses in Strawberry Malt, Mall Madness, and Feelin' So Good

Strawberry Malt is a medium vibrant cool-toned pinked red. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is lighter and more pink than Russian Red, and cooler than Venetian Lustreglass.
Mall Madness is a medium brightened pink-plum with gold and fuchsia micro-shimmer. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, with medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. It is darker and more plum than Cultured, and brighter and more pink than Star Nova Lustreglass.
Feelin' So Good is a dark red-toned plum with brown undertones. This is a new and limited edition shade. It tends to settle into lip lines and has a tendency to look patchy and uneven when applied. It has medium pigmentation and semi-opaque colour pay-off. It is more brown than Desire, and darker and more brown than Decorative Lustreglass.

Like the lipsticks, the ones that will sell out the fastest will be the bright shades: Kiss & Don't Tell, Strawberry Malt, and Mall Madness. Coincidentally, those three shades also have the best consistencies, and look the best when worn alone (whereas the other three shades tend to look better layered on top of another lip product). Kiss & Dont Tell is absolutely stunning and will look amazing for Spring and Summer. Strawberry Malt has a jelly-like finish to it that makes lips look brilliant and juicy, and it seems to have a glossier finish than most Lipglasses. Mall Madness is a shade that I can see being worn all year round, and the micro-shimmer in this shade seems to be more dimensional so that lips really look glistening. As far as milky pinks go, Stay Sweet does seem to perform better than many other ones that MAC has come out with, going on smoother and more evenly. However, both Stay Sweet and Summer Sweetheart look like a lot of shades that MAC has released before. Feelin' So Good is a more unique shade, but the formulation leaves something to be desired. It will look better layered on top of another lip product, like Boyfriend Stealer lipstick or a similarly-coloured lip liner like MAC's Currant or Nightmoth. These won't sell out as fast as the lipsticks from this collection, but they will sell out for sure. So, again, if you like any of these shades and you pass by a counter or store that still has them in stock, snatch them up right away!

  1. I just showed this to my sister and we had a trip down memory lane calling up old Archie plotlines. I love the collection but don't feel the desire to own any of these. Weird, right? Kiss & Don't Tell and Strawberry Malt are fabulous though! :)

    1. I think the make-up world is so saturated that there are lots of other brands offering similar shades now, so it doesn't make these shades quite as exciting. There's just a lot of hype around MAC collaboration collections, so they sell out fast regardless, lol.

Kiss & Don't Tell and Strawberry Malt are seriously stunning, though. By far my two favourites. :)

  2. I do like the look of Mall Madness, but I sort of made an unofficial pact with myself that I wouldn't buy any more Lipglasses, as they always end up annoying me with the stickiness. I never though that would bother me, but as my makeup collection has grown and I've tried more brands, I just started to prefer a bit of a smoother gloss. Oh well!

    1. I LOVE Kiss & Don't Tell, Strawberry Malt, and Mall Madness! But, I agree, I'm not a huge fan of the stickiness of the Lipglass formula, either. That having been said, though, they do last quite a long time on the lips, longer than a less stickier gloss. But I guess that's to be expected; the stickier the gloss, the longer wearing they are. MAC's Pro Longwear Lipglass formula is so sticky, I swear it feels like you're wearing glue. So by comparison, Lipglass is nothing I can't handle, lol!

My favourite formula by MAC is still Cremesheen Glass because it's not sticky at all and it's actually smoother and more moisturizing than the other formulas. BUT, the wear-time is pretty short, maybe two hours tops. Give and take, you know. What's your favourite gloss formula now?
