MAC Après Chic: Lipsticks

on
Saturday, January 5, 2013

Last Thursday, MAC released their first post-holiday colour collection called Après Chic. It is inspired by "natural glamour [that] appears effortless." This collection is comprised of 30 products —19 of which is new and limited edition, three of which are re-promotes, five of which are new and permanent, and three of which are permanent. Après Chic sees the release of five shades of lipstick, all of which are new and limited edition. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $18. These are applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Warm Companion, Cozy Up, Haute Altitude, Après Chic, and Hot Chocolate

Warm Companion is a pale peached beige with champagne pearl in a Frost finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly, but the frosted finish makes it appear patchy and uneven on the lips. It has low-medium pigmentation and semi-sheer colour pay-off. It is darker and more peach than Tanarama, and lighter and less gold than Gel.
Cozy Up is a light-medium warm browned peach in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is lighter and less orange than Mocha, more peach than Yash, and darker than Peachstock.
Haute Altitude is a light-medium pink with subtle blue undertones in an Amplified Creme finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly cooler than Lovelorn, and slightly warmer than Pink Plaid.
Après Chic is a medium warm poppy red in a Cremesheen finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is more pinked than Ladybug, and brighter than On Hold.
Hot Chocolate is a medium-dark dirty plum-brown in a Satin finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is more plum than Verve, and darker and more plum than Twig.

Something for everyone: Warm Companion for those who like frosted, metallic finishes; Cozy Up for those who like nude lips; Haute Altitude for a universally flattering pink that doesn't look too bubblegum-y; Après Chic for a softer, but still vibrant red lip; and Hot Chocolate for those who like a more sophisticated, office-appropriate look (also looks great as a my-lips-but-better shade for darker skintones). For me, the most skippable shade here is Warm Companion only because it barely shows up on lips, leaving only patches of gold metallic sheen — which, let's be honest, is straight out of the '80s and not in a good way.

  1. They're all really pretty except for the first and the third shade! I still can't get on board with overly pinky shades apparently. :) Apres Chic and Hot Chocolate are my faves!

    1. Haha, watch you in a few months being like, "I LOVE PINK." ;) I can give you Hot Chocolate if you want it!

My favourites are Apres Chic and Haute Altitude. :) Given everyone's affinity for reds right now, Apres Chic is by far the most popular.

    1. I think so, too. :) Warm Companion and Hot Chocolate are the least popular of the five, I think.

  3. I was kind of itching to get Hot Chocolate but it's very similar to my regular brownish pink lipsticks that I seem to gravitate towards...so I did something really out of character. I got Apres Chic instead :) I was quite surprised I really liked the shade. I swatched it on a nude lip liner and it looked even nicer. Hoping to wear it soon.

    1. YAYYYY!!! I'm surprised but super excited that you got Apres Chic! It's a gorgeous colour, and it was the first one to sell out from this collection. :)

Did you try Hot Chocolate on, though? It's sooooo pretttttyyyyy, especially on your skintone!

    2. I swatched it and I really liked it but unlike on your skin tone, I didn't get the 'purple' hint. I figured I'd get something different, hence Apres Chic. Wearing it today and it looks quite pleasant. Contemplating getting the Auburn lip liner to try it together another day.

    3. Fair enough, the purple tint would get lost on a darker skintone. But it is still a really pretty colour. :P

But I'm glad you're trying something different! And it'll look really lovely with Auburn. :)
