If you like ice cream and you're in New York, you need to go to the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory at least once (though you might be tempted to go again and again and again). What sets this place apart from other ice cream places is the fact that they make their ice cream fresh in-store every day and their Chinese-inspired flavours. Even if you're nowhere near Chinatown, it's worth the trek and the subsequent line-up (apparently, it doesn't matter what time of day or which day of the week — there is always a line-up). I go there at least once on every trip to New York.
A cup of Almond Cookie and Lychee ice cream
We decided on two flavours in a single cup: Almond Cookie and Lychee. (They are both the same colour, so it looks like one flavour in the cup.) Almond Cookie is a mix of crushed almond cookies in an almond-scented vanilla ice cream, and it seriously tastes like a cold, creamy version of an almond cookie. In a word, heavenly. Apparently, the Almond Cookie ice cream is so popular that it's usually the first one to sell out, especially on weekends, but they still had some on the Thursday night that we went. If you are going to go with one flavour at the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, that's the one. As a contrast, we decided to go with a fruitier flavour, so we picked the Lychee. It was more akin to vanilla ice cream with a hint of lychee, which is still super-tasty, but if you want more of an actual lychee flavour, go with the lychee sorbet. Next time, I will try Egg Tart and Zen Butter.

ReplyDeleteOkay, next time you're in NYC? You NEED to try their ice cream. It's a game-changer. Next time, Zen Butter will be mine (white sesame and peanut butter = OMG, NUTTY GOODNESS!!!).
DeleteMy New York City list keeps growing as I make it through your posts, Denise! You're getting better and better with the food posts. I love how you describe everything, not only in a similar style to your shopping posts (ie. you make us all want to eat/buy whatever it is you have) but with a touch of humour. I think I've told you this before, but it needed to be said again, because really. You're fab! Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks so much, Kahyen! :) Totally made my day!
DeleteIf you go here, eat a big scoop of Almond Cookie and/or Zen Butter for me. :D
