MAC Iris Apfel: Lipsticks

MAC released a new collection in collaboration with Iris Apfel yesterday (you can read more about her here). This collection will be available online and at freestanding MAC Stores only. It features 20 products in total, 15 of which are limited edition. There are five shades of lipstick featured in this collection, four of which are new and limited edition, and one of which is permanent (Morange, which will not be reviewed here). MAC's lipsticks are vanilla-scented, but taste-free. Depending on the finish, I get anywhere from three to six hours of wear. Each lipstick comes in regular black packaging, contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $17.50. These shades are applicable for the Back To MAC recycling program.

Flamingo, Party Parrot, Scarlet Ibis, and Pink Pigeon

Flamingo is a light-medium coral-pink in a Lustre finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on smoothly and evenly, and has medium pigmentation with semi-opaque colour pay-off. This is smoother and more pigmented than most other Lustre lipsticks. It is similar to Blossom Culture Sheen Supreme Lipstick, and more coral than Fashion City Sheen Supreme Lipstick.

Party Parrot is a medium bright reddened pink in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on creamy, smoothly, and evenly. It has intense pigmentation with opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly more pink than Impassioned, and less red than Fusion Pink.

Scarlet Ibis is a medium bright orange-red in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on creamy, smoothly, and evenly. It has intense pigmentation with opaque colour pay-off. It is more orange than Lady Danger, and more red than So Chaud.

Pink Pigeon is a medium bright neon fuchsia in a Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It goes on creamy, smoothly, and evenly. It has intense pigmentation with opaque colour pay-off. It is lighter and warmer than Show Orchid, and is darker and less neon than Candy Yum-Yum (from last year's Quite Cute collection).

I seriously love every single one of these lipsticks. The most wearable shade here is Flamingo; the sheerness of the shade lets your natural lip colour show through, but it adds a soft peachy pink to the lips. While it's not as bright as the others, it's absolutely gorgeous — for those who missed Ever Hip, this is fairly similar. Likewise, for those who missed Candy Yum-Yum last year (this sold out in a day!), Pink Pigeon is the most similar shade I've seen so far. Both Party Parrot and Scarlet Ibis are easily dupeable, but what I love about these shades is that they're creamy mattes (not drying at all!). Seriously, I'm in love. All worth looking, especially if you love bright lipsticks.

  3. Your swatches always make me want lipsticks even though I don't like them when I see in person!

  4. LOL, Liz, it doesn't matter here, anyway, 'cause from what I heard, every single store in Toronto is SOLD OUT of these lipsticks. And most of them are sold out online, too! Ridiculous! Also, I always recommend trying the colour on your lip instead of on your hand to judge if it actually looks good on you. You'll never know just by lookin'! Of course, this might be a good thing if you're on a lippie ban... ;)

  5. I honestly like all of these shades! They look so nice side-by-side too. Though I'm not even sure if they will be available here in Australia...I think I need to relocate. LOL

  6. Stacey -- These shades are totally up your alley! They'd look gorgeous on you. Why wouldn't these be available in Australia? :(

  7. WOW!! All the colors look soooo nice. I'm trying to go bolder with my lipsticks but I just feel so concious when I wear bright in your face colors!

  8. Irene -- You have to build your way up to insanely bright lipsticks. Jumping in right away can be kind of intimidating! ;) If you can find this collection (and it's not sold out yet!), you should try Flamingo. It's a very flattering colour, and semi-sheer, so it's not that bright. :)
