In lieu of a Mother's Day gift, I told my mom I'd take her out for dinner instead. She was in the mood for Japanese food, so she decided upon Sushi House since it's so close to home. We'd been there once before and I remember it being fairly good, so I agreed. Considering that it was Mother's Day, the initial ten minute wait for a table without a reservation wasn't nearly as bad as we'd expected. We decided to order a Red Dragon roll to share, and we each ordered a bento box that included nine pieces of sashimi, six pieces of sushi, three pieces of California roll, and chicken teriyaki (salmon teriyaki for my mom). Within minutes, we were served miso soup, salad, edamame, and Korean cold noodles. And then the Red Dragon roll came by a minute later, which was tasty, fresh, and generously portioned.
After the Red Dragon roll was devoured, we waited a whopping 45 minutes for the bento boxes to arrive. And it wasn't until my mom got up (a total of three times) to inquire about the rest of our meal that they even remembered to serve us. I understand that it's busy because it's Mother's Day, there's a lot of take-out orders, etc. But as understanding as I can be, 45 minutes is pretty damn long to wait for food to arrive. Like, they can make a platter of 200 pieces of sushi for someone's take-out order, but they can forget about our comparatively measly portions? 20 minutes, I'd understand. 30 minutes is stretching it. But a 45-minute wait is just ridiculous. Like, I can usually order, eat, and pay within 45 minutes.
By the time the bento boxes came around, we were starving, and it had felt like ages since we ate that Red Dragon roll. My mom was livid, mostly because no one even came by our table to tell us that we'd have to wait a little longer for our food, let alone refill our tea cups. It's not hard to drop by and say, "I'm so sorry, there's a back-up in the kitchen and it will take a bit longer for your food to arrive." What's even more disappointing was that half the sashimi that came in our bento boxes weren't fresh at all; my mom had a piece of tuna that looked like it had already been eaten. Moreover, the portion of my (lukewarm) chicken teriyaki was smaller than the size of my palm. They did give us a plate of grilled salmon on the house as an apology for the waiting mishap, but the overall experience this evening was really quite disappointing. And it started off so well, too. I should've just bought my mom a damn card and called it a day.
Those salmon sashimi looks soo good and fatty!
ReplyDeleteThe salmon was really good, but all the other fish that came with it was just bad news bears. In the picture of the sashimi, there's a piece of fish sitting right next to the salmon that looks DRIED UP. Gross-tastic.
