MAC Surf, Baby!: Lipsticks

MAC's Surf, Baby! collection sees the release of four lipsticks, three new and limited edition and one permanent. All four lipsticks are housed in the limited edition Surf, Baby! packaging. I picked up the three new shades, and decidedly left the permanent one (Mocha). Each lipstick contains 3 grams of product and retails for $18.50.

Bust Out!, Hibiscus, Naturally Eccentric

Bust Out! is a semi-sheer deep pinked violet in a Lustre finish. It's like a sheer, more violet version of Up The Amp. It's comparable to Play Time from Quite Cute, but Bust Out! is darker.

Hibiscus is a semi-opaque bright mid-tone coral red in a Cremesheen finish. It's like a brighter, more opaque version of Lady Bug, or a richer and brighter version of Viva Glam Cyndi. It's similar to Toxic Tale from last fall's Venomous Villains, but less neon and with a different finish.

Naturally Eccentric is semi-sheer whitened nude in a Lustre finish. It's less pink than Hue, and is like a whiter and more sheer version of Myth. When dabbed on, it does come across as a nice pale nude shade, but if you really layer it on, it can look like thick concealer.

Unlike Fashion Flower and Quite Cute, all the lipsticks from Surf, Baby! go on creamy and smooth. None of them look dry on the lip, nor do they accentuate lines. I'd say all of them are in line with their finishes. The Lustre finishes (Bust Out! and Naturally Eccentric) are semi-sheer and have a glossy finish, whereas the Cremesheen finish (Hibiscus) is semi-opaque and creamy with a sheen. Like Ever Hip (Fashion Flower) and Candy Yum-Yum (Quite Cute), Hibiscus will definitely be the big seller out of the four lipsticks, especially since corals are exceptionally popular this time of year.
