MAC released a new collection called Fashion Flower on April 28 (moved up from the original launch date of May 5). Included in this collection are two limited edition shades of Beauty Powder, called Alpha Girl and Light Sunshine. Each powder features an imprint of gerbera daisies in light of the collection's theme. Of the two, I only picked up Alpha Girl, only because Light Sunshine is much too pale to be used as anything but a highlight powder, and I have a lot of similar shades for the same purpose. Alpha Girl Beauty Powder is a re-promote from MAC's Heatherette collection back in 2008, so for those who didn't get a chance to snatch it up back then, you can try your luck now. Though from what I've seen so far, this shade will sell out relatively fast at counters, so hurry if you like the shade. Each compact contains 10 grams of product, and retails for $30.
Alpha Girl is a soft light pink-coral with a very subtle satin sheen. MAC describes this shade as having "gold nuances," but I just don't see it, in the pan or in application. As with most powder products, it does go on more pigmented on skin than it does in a swatch, so don't let the picture above fool you into thinking that's what it'll look like in execution. The powder is quite soft and therefore blends out easily, but because the shade is so soft, it needs a few layers to get visible colour (at least on medium skintones), and is nearly impossible to overdo. It also looks much peachier in the picture above, but in execution, the shade definitely has pink tones to it. I do wish Alpha Girl had a bit more of a sheen or "gold nuances," though, because it can end up looking powdery and flat on the skin. If you have an oilier skin like me, you'll get more of a glowy look as the day goes on. But if you have drier skin, this will only accentuate that more. That having been said, though, it is a really pretty shade and a nice subtle option for Spring for light to medium skintones.
