MAC released a new collection in collaboration with Iris Apfel yesterday (you can read more about her here). This collection will be available online and at freestanding MAC Stores only. It features 20 products in total, 15 of which are limited edition. There is a limited edition shade of Beauty Powder released with this collection, which is a re-promote. MAC's Beauty Powders are soft, finely-milled face powders that generally have a shimmery finish, making them ideal for use as a subtle highlighter and blush, or an all-over illumination product. They don't have the frosty metallic finishes of Mineralize Skinfinishes, so these are great for a more subtle veil of shimmer on the face. Each Beauty Powder comes in regular black packaging, contains 10 grams of product, and retails for $27.50.
Too Chic
Too Chic is a pale peachy gold with a subtle white-gold shimmer-sheen. This is limited edition, and is a re-promoted shade from 2010's Stylishly Yours collection. It goes on soft, silky, and smooth. It has medium pigmentation with semi-opaque colour pay-off, but can be easily layered to get full opacity. This shade is ideal for fair to medium skintones for use as a highlighter, to lighten up a darker or brighter blush, to add shimmer to a matte blush, or as an all-over illuminating powder. Those with medium-dark to deep dark skintones may find this product too ashy on the skin, but can try adding it on top of a blush to add shimmer and illumination. There is nothing similar to this product in MAC's permanent range.
This is a really pretty, basic highlighting powder. It's not particularly unique, but it does have a beautiful silky texture, and goes on very smoothly and evenly. It's not overly frosty or metallic, which is really nice, and may be a nicer option for those who don't like Mineralize Skinfinishes. The only con about this product is that, because it is so light, it's not going to be as flattering on medium-dark to deep dark skintones. If you have a similar product, you might want to skip this, but if you're looking for a good, general, all-over highlighter, this is something you might want to consider.
I'm always drawn in by the LE beauty powders but NO MORE highlighters for me! (Unless there's a really really pretty design on them... sigh.)
ReplyDeleteHaha, it's true, there's only so many highlighters a person can get without having many, many dupes. This one is nice, but you're bound to have one just like it, lol. I can't wait to see what MAC is bringing out for Spring/Summer. They usually bring out three or four major launches with LE packaging, so we'll see what they are this year. ;) If anything like Marine Life comes out, YOU MUST GRAB IT IMMEDIATELY.

ReplyDeleteDenise, do you think people with somewhat oily skin can still wear highlighters or do you advise against it?
ReplyDeleteFieran -- OF COURSE we can still wear them!!! In fact, those with dry skin should be more careful with it, because many shimmers can emphasize dry lines/flakes and wrinkles/lines. I have combination/oily skin, and I always wear highlighter! It's just wear you put it that you have to be careful of. I usually just stick to the cheekbones and under the eyebrows -- places where I don't normally get oily. It's a very pretty, subtle effect. :) Definitely look into it!
