Lucky Pockets

Oh, man. Love Chinese New Year. More wealth and prosperity, please!

The big family Chinese New Year dinner was pretty low-key this year (as in, not a fancy, overpriced, 12-course meal with a massive roasted pig and abalone and shark fin soup). We had it at Star Walk, 'cause my grandpa loves buffets. And who are we to say anything? I mean, buffets are awesome. I'm just saying, that's why there are no food pictures.

Also, can I just point out that lucky pockets look totally different now than what they used to? Before, they were made of a red, slightly grainy, slightly shiny paper, with a good luck character embossed in gold. You could usually get them at Asian banks (e.g. HSBC). And they were just called "red envelopes," 'cause that's what they are and Asians like to be succinct. That was the standard. Now, anything goes. Like cat flautists on shimmery pale gold paper. I'm not complaining, because let's face it, those cat pockets are pretty epic. I'm just making an observation.

  3. Thanks, Mary! You, too, if you celebrate it...? :)

Haha, Sydney, I still get the old school pockets, but I am getting more and more of these crazy fancy ones! They are upping their game.
