Cooking at Home: Labour Day Weekend Dinner with Baked Chili Lime Shrimp, Garden Salad with Homemade Lemon Vinaigrette, Roasted Garlic Chipotle Baby Potatoes, Roasted Shishito Peppers, and Baked Harissa Chicken with Homemade Tzatziki

My friend Chelsea recently got a new job at a gorgeous and very highly-rated hair salon so I made an appointment with her for a wash and cut — the first one I've had at a salon in nearly 15 years. I usually cut my own hair because I always wear it up and no one notices, anyway, but my hair was getting too long and I figured I could support my friend this way, too. Since I was the last client of the day, she gave an extra long scalp massage, snipped off three inches, and added some nice new layers. (I tipped her generously.) And since she works four minutes from her house, we went back to her place to cook dinner.

On the menu for tonight: chili lime shrimp with a hint of honey and a sprinkle of parsley, a gigantic garden salad with feta and homemade lemon vinaigrette, roasted garlic chipotle baby potatoes, roasted shishito peppers with onion dip, and baked harissa chicken with homemade tzatziki sauce. Chelsea contemplated making zucchini fritters as well, but we thought this was ambitious enough for the three of us. I prepped all the vegetables and roast the potatoes, Chelsea prepared the chicken and the tzatziki, and Braden cooked the shrimp and peppers. I just gotta say: this dinner was INCREDIBLE. There's something super-satisfying about eating an delicious meal that you've prepared with friends. It's funny because I never cook like this at home, but put me in someone else's kitchen, and I don't mind doing the work. 

We went for a walk around her neighbourhood afterwards and then had dessert: lemon curd gelato with black currant sorbetto from Chocolate & Company. I said before that my favourite combination was black currant and coconut, but no — this is my ultimate flavour combo. Suffice it to say, I have had a really, really good long weekend.
