Went with my mom to check out the newly opened location of Magical Taste of China for dinner:
Xinjiang-style BBQ lamb skewers
Stir-fried lamb with lotus leaf-shaped buns
Stir-fried green beans with lamb and chilies
Egg and chives pancakes
It's been a while since I've had Chinese Islamic cuisine (e.g. Xinjiang or Uyghur dishes), which is halal and characterized by the heavy use of cumin and chilies. I forgot how spicy the food can get (my mom actually had to rinse her food in hot water because it was too hot for her) but it is SO FREAKING DELICIOUS. Honestly, not a bad dish in the bunch. I used to have to go to Chat Bar if I wanted lamb skewers, but I stopped going there because it is always so goddamn busy, so I'm really glad there's another restaurant in this area to get them. (They offer a variety of skewers here, and I was surprised to see that almost every table had cabbage skewers, of all things.) The food is actually somewhat pricey — after tax and tip, the total for both me and my mom was just under $90 — but I did get enough leftovers for another full dinner, and the service is lovely, attentive, and efficient. I will definitely come back when the cumin lamb craving hits (which is more often than you'd think).
