I can't be in Seoul to join all the crazy Festa festivities in person, but HAPPY 10TH ANNIVERSARY, BTS!
I became ARMY seven years ago and have never looked back. A lot of ARMY say this, but Bangtan really did change my life. My outlook on so many things — being Asian and having Asian pride, liking music just because it sounds good and not for the sake of genre, truly appreciating the art of performance, choosing to love myself first, etc. — has changed for the better. A lot of people that know me in real life don't understand my deep love (some might say obsession) for BTS. All they see is a pretty boy band or a group of idols who gained an impossible amount of global popularity. They don't know about the struggles and the hardships, or the incredible underdog story behind the behemoth that is BTS. They are artists in the truest sense of the word, unbelievably talented while upholding their integrity and humility.
I did not grow up with them, but I did watch them grow and become this phenomenal juggernaut, and the pride I have in them is unparalleled to anything else, like a parent to their child. On this note, they really have inadvertently become like a family to me — people to seek comfort, joy, and love in. It's true what they say: You find BTS when you need them the most. In 2016, I was a very angry person with no direction and no purpose, and through my journey with them, I learned that I can choose to be happy. Thank you, BTS, for giving this me hope, positivity, and inspiration. I will be on this path with you until the end.
