So there's a ton of Tokyo restaurant recommendations and must-visits all over social media that we've made note of... and we haven't been to a single one of them. When we're hungry, we always just end up looking for a place that's nearby, looks decent, and doesn't have an insanely long line-up. So this particular evening, after our (incredibly spectacular) head and body dry massage at Atama Factory in Shinjuku (I cannot recommend this place enough), we were just walking around looking for somewhere to eat. Every restaurant seemed to have crazy line-ups (people love waiting in lines here), and then we found this izakaya that was bustling but where we could be seated at a counter right away.
Sizzling sliced beef steak
Lightly broiled salmon with mayo and green onions
Deep-fried yellowtail cutlet
Deep-fried tofu with katsuobushi
Deep-fried marinated tuna with tartar sauce
Stir-fried noodles with pork and cabbage
After some research, we found out that there's actually a chain of this izakaya in Japan, which explains the huge size of the place and why we didn't have to wait to be seated. Not exactly fine dining or a top recommendation, but it's fast, it's tasty, and it's relatively inexpensive. (Oh, and if you're a smoker, an izakaya is a smoker's haven.)
