We left DisneySea in the afternoon and decided to do walk around Shibuya afterwards (even I wonder where we got our energy from). Of course, all the junk food we had at DisneySea could only last us for so long and we started getting hungry by early evening. We wanted something simple, light, and quintessentially Japanese, so we headed over to Shibuya Mark City because they have so many eateries there, and ultimately decided on a soba restaurant named Soba Shiki.
An assortment of cold appetizers
Signature cold edomae soba with dipping sauce, green onions, and wasabi
Assorted tempura
Grilled chicken and leeks
I had one of the set menus that came with an assortment of cold starter dishes (tamago, cabbage with sakura-ebi, soft tofu, and sweet potatoes); the signature cold soba noodles with dipping sauce, wasabi, and green onions; shrimp and vegetable tempura; and grilled chicken and leeks. I don't know how any of these compare to other iterations of the same dishes in Tokyo, but I have no real complaints. The tempura was light and crispy, and the grilled chicken was flavourful and tender. But there is a reason why this restaurant specializes in soba. I can't even recall the last time I had soba because I had admittedly written them off as the inferior Japanese noodle, but THEY ARE DELICIOUS. Like, I still like ramen and udon more, but soba is officially off my blacklist.
