Osaka 2023 Travel Log: Day 2 — Eating at Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan

You didn't think I would skip eating Super Nintendo World themed food, did you? (Of course you didn't, I basically go to these theme parks to eat.) First up was the dessert snacks at the Mario Cafe in Schwab's Pharmacy, which is actually located outside of the Super Nintendo World area:

Princess Peach's Peach Soda Float

Surprisingly, the winner for me here was Luigi's cap, which was just had the perfect sweet-tart grape flavour and rich, creamy consistency. It was also less sweet than Mario's cap, which I probably wouldn't have been able to finish by myself. The Princess Peach peach soda was intensely sweet, almost sickly, until we mixed the ice cream in, which mellowed out the overwhelming artificial peach flavouring. It was actually pretty decent after that, but I think the Luigi green apple flavour might have been more to my liking because I tend to like more tart flavours. (What can I say, Luigi's my man here.) We then got into Super Nintendo World proper and went on the Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge ride before having to wait 2 hours to eat at Kinopio's Cafe (in Japan, Toad is named Kinopio), which is a restaurant that is — you guessed it — inspired by Toad.

You might be wondering why I decided to get the bacon cheeseburger out of all the other options at Kinopio's Cafe, but after doing some research (e.g. watching tons of Super Nintendo World food tour videos), the cheeseburger got the best reviews across the board. No regrets — the burger was actually really delicious and a decent portion size. (The fries were somewhat bland, though, and should've been served with a condiment.) Not necessarily worth ¥2,300, but overpriced food at theme parks is to be expected. The tiramisu was surprisingly good with a really nice, light, creamy consistency and actually contains real coffee so it's not too sweet. I think this one is catered more to adults than children. But the most underrated item of this lunch was by far the berry and apple ice cream, which was just pure delight in a cup. I haven't seen anyone featuring this on social media and I didn't see anyone else order this, but PEOPLE ARE MISSING OUT. It is such a excellent flavour combo and comes in a perfect individual cup size — they should really offer this at one of the stalls outside of the restaurant.

Anyway, if you're planning a trip to Super Nintendo World and want to eat at Kinopio's Cafe, I highly recommend you get a Timed Entry Ticket the moment you get in. Otherwise, you'll be waiting for hours just to eat there. And there's no re-entry into Super Nintendo World, so you'll be trapped in there and be tempted to look at all the gift shops and spend all your money on Mario merch. (Not speaking from experience, of course.)
