As per my mom's request, I took her out for her birthday dinner tonight at Maxim:
Deep-fried shrimp with tartar sauce and spring mix salad
8 oz. bacon-wrapped beef medallion with sautéed mushrooms, potatoes, vegetables and black peppercorn sauce
Mango cheesecake
Mango shortcake
We go to Maxim every year for their Christmas dinner menu, so I should've known they offer some sort of set menu all year round. (In fact, they don't seem to have an à la carte menu anymore.) It's usually a great value (about $50 per person for four courses), but tonight's experience was honestly pretty disappointing. The beef was incredibly stringy, the bacon wrapped around the beef was way too chewy, my mom's sea bass tasted too fishy, the mango cheesecake had a plasticky aftertaste, the servers were inattentive and forgetful despite the restaurant not being that busy, and we were charged full price for pop even though they should've replaced the tea/coffee that was supposed to come with our meals. I normally think that Maxim's set meals have a good value, but they're getting cheaper with their food quality and worse with their service. Even their signature cakes are hit-or-miss now. Honestly, we'll need to find a new Christmas dinner tradition at this rate.
