Panko fried chicken with spiced fries and gravy
Tonight's Hello Fresh kit, a.k.a. my last meal at home before flying out to Las Vegas:
Panko fried chicken with spiced fries and gravy. Okay, so I cooked the chicken in the air fryer as opposed to oil-frying in a pan as per the recipe's instructions, but I gotta say, they still turned out very nicely. The meat was tender on the inside and super crispy and golden on the outside. (I've said this many times, but my air fryer is best kitchen appliance purchase I have ever made.) The fries were as expected, of course (also cooked in the air fryer), but the coleslaw was way too vinegary for my liking (I added some horseradish mustard which helped a lot) and the gravy was absolutely dismal. So dismal, in fact, that I had one bite of chicken dipped in it and then threw out the rest. Gravies made using broth concentrates just never have a good texture or the right flavour. Plus, the chicken is great enough on its own that it rendered the gravy useless, anyway.
Still, would I make it again? Probably not. These are definitely better than, say, frozen chicken nuggets, but if I'm craving real fried chicken, I'd definitely rather go out and order some, whether it's Korean fried chicken or Popeyes.
