Had a most delectable early birthday dinner tonight with Chelsea and Braden at Aqua Grill:
Marinated charred squid
Pan-seared sea bass and shrimp
Lemon pudding
To start, tender marinated charred squid with grilled pineapple, roasted peppers, olives, tomato filet, garlic confit, and jalapeño soya vinaigrette. The squid was tender and not chewy at all, and it had the perfect marriage of savoury and sweetness with a hint of spice. For mains, both Chelsea and I opted for the special of the day: pan-seared sea bass with butterflied shrimp on a bed of lentils with cherry tomatoes in a parsley reduction. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. As its name implies, Aqua Grill specializes in seafood and it would truly be a crime not to take advantage of that. The sea bass was meaty with perfectly seared skin, and the shrimp were plump and juicy and crisp. Great flavours, great mouthfeel. Really a perfect example of how they make seafood shine here. Finally, for dessert, a delectable lemon pudding - a cross between a custard and a mousse, light and fluffy and bouncy, with a flavour just like lemon meringue pie. It's one of those desserts that you can eat an atrocious amount of and not feel like it was too much. Truly a perfect ending to a fantastic seafood-centric meal.
What a great start to my birthday weekend! 😁
