Went for dinner with my mom and her friend Tony this evening. Originally, we wanted to go to Ding Tai Fung because hi, xiao long bao, but there was an hour wait to get a table, so we walked around First Markham Place to look for another place to eat and decided on Green Tea Restaurant.

Barbecue Pork

Chinese Herb Boiled Chicken

Stir-Fried Shanghai Cabbage with Deep-Fried Pork Belly

Deep-Fried Sea Bass in Sweet and Sour Sauce

I had been there once before with Chelsea when they first opened several years ago and remember the food was delicious and the portions were big, but I never went back because there are just so many other Chinese restaurants to try. But my mom nor Tony had been there before, so they were interested in seeing what they offered. We decided to order the barbecue pork, the Chinese herb boiled chicken, stir-fried Shanghai cabbage with deep-fried pork belly, and the deep-fried sea bass in sweet and sour sauce. Maybe it was because Chelsea and I had no idea what to order when we came here, but every single dish we had tonight was excellent. There was such a great variety in textures, flavours, and preparations in these four dishes that everything seemed very exciting and refreshing to the palate. Even my mom, who is notoriously critical with food, really enjoyed everything. It's a little on the pricey side for Chinese food (just under $40 per person after tax and tip), but I'm really glad I got to re-discover this restaurant.
