BTS Birthday Event: "Kookie Rapper" for Jungkook and RM at K Seoul Hotdog

It's that time of year again! (No, not back to school.) That's right, September marks the birthdays of our beloved Jungkook (on the 1st) and Namjoon (on the 12th)! This year, ARMY Events Toronto, headed by fellow ARMY and graphic designer, Kait Martin, hosted a 3-day joint birthday celebration this long weekend in honour of BTS' golden maknae and leader. In light of the pandemic, she set up headquarters outside at Christie Pits Park this year, where there were many local BTS fan artists selling their wares. The event itself actually had three participating eateries to collect various cup sleeves and photo strips at, so of course, Ying and I went on the hunt to get all the freebies. Our first stop was K Seoul Hotdog — the first BTS event we'd been to that was held at an actual restaurant! (Also the first in-person BTS event we've gone to in a year.) Of course, this worked out quite well for us as we are obsessed with Korean hot dogs anyway, so it became our lunch spot for the day.

BTS Jungkook and RM "Kookie Rapper" Birthday Event — Jungkook and RM Photo Strips

Between the two of us, we had:
  1. The Original Sausage Hotdog with ketchup and mustard
  2. The Ugly Potato Sausage Hotdog with ketchup and mayo
  3. The Ugly Corn Whole Mozza Dog with spicy mayo
  4. The Ugly Onion Sausage Hot Dog with honey mustard
  5. So-tteok with sweet chili sauce

The stand-out was unanimously the Ugly Corn Dog filled with mozzarella. It was excellent and surprisingly unique, with the ideal ratio of corn to batter to cheese. The Original was also quite good, but the Ugly Potato and Ugly Onion Hot Dogs, despite having great flavours and textures, were way too batter-heavy for us — to the point where we ended up having to remove half of the batter. The so-tteok was also quite disappointing; the rice cakes were hard to chew and not fried nearly enough (the outside was not even a little crispy), and the sweet chili sauce completely drowned the skewer. (Lesson learned: Stick to the hot dogs.) At the end of the day, the hot dogs at K Seoul Hot Dog are good, but I prefer Chung Chun more and there's actually a location just down the street from K Seoul Hot Dog. Still, the purpose of going there was to celebrate Jungkook and RM's birthdays, and we collected the birthday photo strips that were exclusive to K Seoul Hot Dog, so mission accomplished and no regrets.

Happy belated birthday to Jungkook and happy early birthday to Namjoon — it was a pleasure to eat Korean hot dogs in honour of you!
