My BTS BTS, The Best albums arrived today! BTS, The Best is the third Japanese compilation album by BTS that was released on June 16, 2021. It includes a total of 23 songs: 16 of the Japanese versions of BTS' greatest hits from You Never Walk Alone in 2017 to Map of the Soul: 7 in 2020, six original Japanese tracks, and "Dynamite" as a bonus track. (In case you're wondering, "The Best" refers to the best of BTS' Japanese songs, not just that they're the best. Because I legitimately did not realize this until I saw the track listing.) There are seven editions of BTS, The Best, and every single version includes the same 23 songs across two CDs.

If you've ever bought (or tried to buy) one of BTS' Japanese albums, you'll know that it can get pretty confusing to differentiate all the versions. So I will break it down here. The Regular Edition is the original, standard album; it includes the two CDs plus a lyric booklet (First Press albums will also include two randomized photo cards) and comes in a standard plastic CD case. Type A Limited Edition includes the two CDs, plus a Blu-ray featuring six music videos, six MV "Making of" videos, and a "Making of" video of the jacket photos for the album; this comes in special Digipak packaging with an outer box. Type B Limited Edition includes the same content as Type A, except the bonus content is on two DVDs instead of a Blu-ray; this also comes in special Digipak packaging with an outer box. Type C Limited Edition includes the two CDs plus a 112-page photobook and two sticker sheets; this also comes in special Digipak packaging with an outer box.

The BTS Japan Official Fanclub Edition includes the two CDs, a 128-page photobook, two sticker sheets, and two randomized member photocards; this edition is only available for members of the BTS Japan Official Fanclub and is not sold at any public retailers, making this the most exclusive edition available. There are also two retailer exclusive editions of the original album: one for 7net and one for Universal Music Store. Each of these exclusive editions contain the same contents as the Regular Edition and also come in standard plastic CD cases, but with different covers/artwork.

As I am a BTS multimedia collector, I obviously ordered a set to get the most versions possible. As I don't own any devices that play Blu-ray, I didn't bother with the Type A version, but I got the First Press 7net Exclusive Set that includes Type B, Type C, Regular Edition, and the 7net Exclusive Edition. I also got the Universal Music Store Exclusive Edition separately. (The BTS Japan Official Fanclub Edition is only available to club members though the fanclub store and as I do not live in Japan, I unfortunately can't get access to it.) As Weverse Shop does not ship any Japanese albums globally (and I refuse to use Korgou now), I ordered all the albums from CDJapan because they offer international shipping. Both the 7net and Universal Music Store Exclusive Sets retail for ¥15,539 (approximately $140 USD or $175 CAD) each, and both the 7net and Universal Music Store Exclusive Editions (album only) retail for ¥2,970 (approximately $27 USD or $33 CAD) each. Shipping will, obviously, differ depending on where you live. But I will note that CDJapan uses DHL for shipping, which means there will be taxes and duties upon arrival.

The 7net Exclusive Set (First Press only) comes with a special edition box to hold all four versions contained in the set, and the Universal Music Store Exclusive Set (First Press only) comes with eight clear document folders (one group, and one for each member). This post is only the general unboxing for the Exclusive Sets — I will have individual unboxing posts for each Type/Edition separately in the next couple of days. (As you can see, there is a lot to go through and I wouldn't even attempt at putting all of the specs of each version in one post. I mean, I do have a ton of really long posts, but that would be ridiculous, even for me.)
