First of all, congratulations to BTS on winning six awards at the 2020 MMA, including three main Daesang awards: Song of the Year for "Dynamite," Album of the Year for Map of the Soul: 7, and Artist of the Year!!! There's no one else in the industry that deserve those awards more; and frankly, it's not even surprising that they had a clean sweep. No one else is doing it like them, and they're killing the game. Case in point: Their 17-minute performance last night that started with the instrumental version of "Black Swan," one of the most elegant and graceful stages I have ever seen in my life, and ended in a high-energy stage for "Dynamite" that included a jaw-dropping ode-to-Michael-Jackson dance break. BTS somehow out does themselves every year, especially at these end-of-year award shows in Korea, and the last couple years have been nothing short of spectacular. This year was no exception.
Due to COVID restrictions, they had to downsize the stage a bit this year, but the performance was extraordinary. Instead of theatrics, I feel like they focused more on BTS' pure skill and talent. I am still reeling from what I saw: Jungkook and Jimin's stunning pas de deux during "Black Swan" (perhaps the best Jikook moment of the year); Jungkook and Jimin's slicked back hair and Jimin's sheer shirt during "ON"; the incredible live vocals and ad libs for "Life Goes On," and the inclusion of ARMY all over the world over hundreds on screens; the INSANE dance break during "Dynamite," where J-Hope showed that he ain't the dance leader for nothing. The show ended around 7:30AM, but I ended up staying up until 8:30AM just from the pure adrenaline rush I got from the performance. That's how powerful it is. And it further proved that no one deserves the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance as much as they do.
