This week's Friday Five:
- What's a movie you once liked but is now unwatchable? American History X. It makes me too damn sad.
- What's a song you once liked but is now unlistenable? "Brackish" by Kittie. To be fair, I liked them in Grade 8, okay?
- What's a book you once liked but is now unreadable? Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Weirdly enough, it's not the story that I don't like. The writing itself is just cringy.
- What's something you once found unbelievable but whose truth is now undeniable? Nothing I can think of. If I found it unbelievable before, I find it unbelievable now.
- What's something you once found tasty but is now unpalatable? Oreos. Like, original Oreos. I pretty much like every type of Oreo except for the original ones.
I've heard this about the Twilight books, which I haven't read. I did recently (as in last fall) finally see the first of the films, because I'm trying to see everything Anna Kendrick is in, and I thought it wasn't bad.
ReplyDeleteThe movies are alright - at the end of the day, they were entertaining and I thought they captured the books really well. A lot of people give them a lot of shit for bad acting and general cheesiness, but that's actually how the characters in the books are. I mean, I own them all on DVD, so I did really like them at one point. The stories themselves are interesting and I do like the concept, but the writing is somewhat lacking, IMO. I don't regret reading them, and I've re-read them many times, but again, the writing leaves something to be desired. I don't know if it's the writer herself or her editors - maybe they wanted the writing to be more appealing to tweens/teens.
DeleteAlso, yasss, I love Anna Kendrick! Have you seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5VfekpUpms
It's a great interview and a general overview of her career.
