So, I'm pretty tight with my convenience store guy. I see him three times a week to buy smokes, so while we don't know each other's names, I know that he's Korean, probably in his late 30s or early 40s, and is also a smoker. Just like he knows that I'm a smoker in my 30s, that I'm a make-up artist and a manager for a make-up company, and that I have an intense obsession with BTS (because I ask him from time to time about BTS magazine covers so he'll save them for me). When I went in to ask him about the BTS cover for TIME Magazine last year, he initially wasn't that familiar with BTS (he said he didn't pay attention to K-pop, so all he had heard of was Big Bang), but after I mentioned them, he said he started seeing them everywhere (a.k.a. the BTS Effect) and that they were always on the Korean news so even his parents knew who they were.
Anyway, sometime last month, he told me that he started to see BTS merch everywhere, even saw the dolls being sold at Wal-Mart, and then asked me who my favourite members were because he only knew who RM was ("the one that speaks English"). So I told him, "Oh, my biases are Jungkook and Jimin." (I had to explain to him what biases are.) And he said, "Oh, interesting, I'll have to see who they are." And I totally forgot about this conversation... until today. I went in to buy smokes as usual, greeted him with a cheery "Annyeonghaseyo!", and he says to me, "Annyeonghaseyo! Oh, I have a gift for you!" And he WHIPS OUT THESE JUNGKOOK SOCKS. And then tells me, "I was at H Mart the other day and they had an entire BTS section! So I saw these funny socks and was trying to look for Jungkook and Jimin, but Jimin was sold out, so I only have Jungkook here." I was so touched because this convenience store guy, whose name I don't even know, just got me Jungkook socks because he knows I love BTS so much. I almost teared up.
Conclusion: My convenience store guy is way better than your convenience store guy.
