Cheat day dinner with Maegan and Jason tonight at the new outpost of The Good Son at Don Mills. Phenomenal food, amazing service, and beautiful ambience. Every dish we ordered was on-point in flavours, textures, and presentation. The pappardelle was fresh and firm with a good chew, and infused with a gorgeous white truffle oil; a dish that we would all go back to eat over and over again. The pizza had the perfect thin-but-plush Neapolitan-style crust with fresh tomato sauce and fat, magnificent blobs of fior di latte. The Brussel sprouts were, quite frankly, inspired with a roasted savoury flavour and a burst of maple sweetness. And the octopus was gorgeous, firm but lush, not rubbery or chewy at all, and served with squid ink fregola, shishito peppers, and spring mix that all worked surprisingly well together to create a dish that was fresh and exciting. Our server was attentive but not cloying; he stopped by twice in total to ask if the food was good and if we needed anything else, but it never felt like he was interrupting, and he really paid attention as to when we needed water refills or plates taken away from the table. The whole restaurant is decorated with a plethora of antiques but they somehow make them look sleek and trendy rather than dated or stuffy. 100% recommend and would return. Hopefully really soon, too, because their cheeseburger and spicy sopressata pizza are calling out to me.
