This week's Friday Five:
- What's the scariest movie you've seen? I haven't watched a lot of horror movies in my lifetime, but I'd still say the original It. I think if I watched it now, it would be a different story, but I watched it when I was 11 and I've always had a fear of clowns, so I remember being so terrified that I had to sleep next to my mom for six months afterwards. I'd keep imagining blood pouring out of my sink, my bathtub, seeping out of mirrors... I thought a clown would pop out behind doors, out of sewers, out of closets. It's kind of ridiculous, but my mind has always had a crazy imagination so horror movies have always been a big no-no for me. It's like psychological warfare.
- What most recently startled you? The seemingly sudden and out-of-nowhere release of BTS' "Euphoria," but like, in the best way possible, 'cause it's freaking awesome.
- What's something in your residence that's frightening? I'd say the odd spider I find crawling around. It's kind of an irrational fear because the house spiders here are fairly small and generally harmless and I'm also like, a million times bigger than it, but I just can't deal with them. (I don't know how Australians deal with this.)
- What kinds of social settings cause you anxiety? Having to be social with a lot of strangers at an event, like a wedding or a party. I don't drink, so there's nothing to ease me into it. I just have to be "on" at all times, which gets exhausting. Luckily, I don't go to many weddings or parties. Oh, also crowds at malls on Black Friday and Boxing Day. It's like a mosh pit except there's no cool music and people are crazy and no one's having fun.
- What's something you are no longer afraid of? Being alone. I used to always want to go out and be social and have a big circle of friends. But I really cherish being by myself now. Like, I genuinely prefer it. Maybe because my job requires me to be social all the time, I just like to shut down when I'm not at work. Or maybe it's just apart of growing up.
