Friday Five: What Ails 'Ya

This week's Friday Five:
  1. How do you treat a bad case of the Mondays? I don't really have an aversion to Mondays specifically because I usually work weekends so I often have Mondays off. I also don't usually have two days off in a row, so I don't really have "weekends." But I assume this question is in reference to a day back at work after an extended period of time off (e.g. two or more days), or just a day in which I'm dreading going to work. In which case: I play upbeat jams and treat myself to a bubble tea.

  2. How do you fight off a case of the blahs? I shop online. Works every time. If I don't want to spend money, then I take a nap.

  3. How do you deal with a bad hair day? I tie it up in a bun, maybe add an extra bobby pin or two depending on how difficult it's being, and avoid mirrors. (I am not, and never will be, a hat person.)

  4. What's your strategy for FOMO? I don't get FOMO all that often because I don't care about a lot of things that my generation get caught up in. I really only get FOMO for concerts. I'll get mad at first and then accept it, and figure out substitutions. Case in point: After a two-year hiatus from announcing their reunion at Riot Fest 2015, Alexisonfire (one of my favourite bands for over 15 years) had announced four shows in Toronto this past June (which ended up being rescheduled for December). I got up early for the pre-sale and could not get a single ticket for any of the dates, let alone one — only to find out that the majority of them had been bought out by bots and were going for 6 - 10 times the price on third party selling sites. I was pissed as fuck, and while I realize I could just pay $200+ per ticket through Stub Hub to attend, I cannot bring myself to do it by principle. I fucking hate scalpers and under no circumstance will I help them profit. So I gave up on that, but got tickets to see Jimmy Eat World and Incubus in July a week later, and managed to get tickets to see Paramore in October (quite the achievement for me because it sold out within minutes!). They don't replace the Alexisonfire shows, but I get just as excited to see these other bands I love so it eases the pain of missing out.

  5. How prone are you to Instagram envy? Eh, not that prone. I'll see some posts of really good food at a great restaurant and be envious that I'm not there in the moment... But then I'll make plans to eat there with a friend and all is good!

  1. What's the bubble tea situation in Toronto? I have a weakness for good boba, and luckily the scene is really active around here. There are new places popping up all the time, many with some new concept worth checking out.

    1. The bubble tea scene is crazy here 'cause there's so many immigrants from Asia. There's several main chains from Taiwan and China that have gotten especially big here, and the majority of smoothie/juice bars have started carrying bubble tea; it's readily available at all malls, plazas, and main shopping/entertainment streets here. There's literally as many bubble tea shops as Starbucks. But as with your area in Hawaii, there are lots of new places popping up - one shop called Happy Lemon sells "salted cheese" bubble teas, and another called The Alley has a drink called Northern Lights thats made with Butterfly Pea Tea so it changes colours! :)
