MAC Magic of the Night: Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Oh, Darling and Shaft of Gold

Today, MAC will be releasing their holiday collection called Magic of the Night, which is inspired by "an enchanted evening that won't stop until dawn." This collection will be launching along side Enchanted Eve, which is part one of this year's holiday kits. Magic of the Night will see the release of a total of 15 products, of which eight are new and limited edition, and seven are permanent. This collection includes two new and limited edition shades of Extra Dimension Skinfinish, which is described as "a liquid-powder highlighter that gives a luminous, well-defined finish." Each Extra Dimension Skinfinish comes in special edition metallic cobalt blue compacts, contains 9 grams of product, and retails for $38.50.

Oh, Darling is a light-medium warm champagne gold with a metallic sheen in an Extra Dimension finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There's nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is much more gold than Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish, and lighter and more yellow than Global Glow Mineralize Skinfinish.

Shaft of Gold is a medium warm peachy bronze with a metallic sheen in an Extra Dimension finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a lightweight, silky texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more peach and less sparkly than Gold Deposit Mineralize Skinfinish, and more golden and less sparkly than Cheeky Bronze Mineralize Skinfinish.

Rejoice, for Extra Dimension Skinfinish is finally making its comeback this holiday season! This formula is so lauded and so coveted that I'm surprised MAC hasn't made these permanent (it has been two years since these last launched). A lot of people who like the metallic, pearlized sheen of Mineralize Skinfinishes but want a smoother, less glittery finish will love the Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula, which shares the high-shine finish and almost weightless texture. For those who missed out on Whisper of Gilt (which launched three years ago, has spawned dozens of imitations, and is still sought-after to this day), you are going to want to get your hands on Oh, Darling, which is very similar but a touch darker (actually making it more wearable across all skintones). For those who missed out on Magnetic Appeal from two years ago, Shaft of Gold is very similar, though perhaps slightly more peach. It makes an excellent highlighter for dark to deep dark skintones, and an excellent glowy blush/bronzer for fair to medium-dark skintones. Both are stunningly gorgeous, and are undoubtedly going to be the fastest selling products from this collection (indeed, Oh, Darling is already sold out online), so get to your closest MAC location as early as possible if you wanna get your hands on one!
