Yesterday, MAC officially released their holiday collection called Magic of the Night, which is inspired by "an enchanted evening that won't stop until dawn." This collection launched along side Enchanted Eve, which is part one of this year's holiday kits. Magic of the Night sees the release of a total of 15 products, of which eight are new and limited edition, and seven are permanent. This collection includes five new and limited edition shades of Colourdrenched Pigment, which is described as an “innovative eye shadow [that] combines the smoothness and softness of a cream with the high performance and colour pay-off of a compact eyeshadow. The effect is dazzling, bright pigments that highlight eyes, glowing with brilliant accents and intense colour.” Each Colourdrenched Pigment comes in special edition metallic turquoise blue packaging, contains 1.85 grams of product, and retails for $26.50.

Night Thrill, Tonight's the Night!, Moon is Blue, Ascent of Glamour, and No Taboos

Night Thrill is a light cool champagne gold in a sparkly, metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a dense, buttery texture, but due to the grittier sparkles, it can go on a bit unevenly. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more gold than Retrospeck Eyeshadow, and cooler and more sparkly than Ricepaper Eyeshadow.
Tonight's the Night! is a dark cool teal blue with green reflects in a sparkly, metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a dense, buttery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. There's nothing really similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is brighter and more blue than Legendary Lure Extra Dimension Eyeshadow, and much darker and more sparkly than Teal Pigment.
Moon is Blue is a medium-dark cool cobalt blue in a sparkly, metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a dense, buttery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is darker than Freshwater Eyeshadow, and brighter and less purple than Lunar Extra Dimension Eyeshadow.
Ascent of Glamour is a medium-dark cool blue-toned purple in a sparkly, metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a dense, buttery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is brighter and darker than Parfait Amour Eyeshadow, and darker and more blue than Violet Pigment.
No Taboos is a deep carbon black with navy blue reflects in a sparkly, metallic finish. This is a new and limited edition shade. It has a dense, buttery texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is more blue-toned and more sparkly than Black Tied Eyeshadow, and more blue-toned than Dark Soul Pigment.

The Colourdrenched Pigment is a brand-new formula launching with this collection, and they are stunning, especially in these gorgeous jewel-tone shades that are so perfect for the holiday season. They have a dense, creamy texture and a multi-dimensional sparkly finish that remind me of the Dazzleshadows that launched in June, but without the 3D duochrome reflection. There's a binding agent in these that make them go on smoother and creamier — with saturated colour pay-off and much less fall-out — than any of MAC's other "Pigment" formulas (e.g. Pigment and Pressed Pigment), even without primer. The only shade that seemed to go on less smooth than the others was Night Thrill, which had a slightly drier texture and grittier consistency. That's not to say that it's not a beautiful shade, but it does work best on top of a tackier eye base (e.g. MAC's 24-Hour Eye Extend Base or Too Faced's Glitter Glue) to achieve full, saturated colour pay-off. MAC doesn't state whether these are meant to be used both wet and dry, but I haven't found the need to use these wet; I would use a good primer to keep it from creasing and to stay on longer (especially if you have oily eyelids), but I didn't have any issues with layering or blending these out. Oh, and they work phenomenally as liners, too (I tested this on the bottom lid with a MAC #212 brush and they glide on smoothly with full colour pay-off and no fall-out whatsoever). If you're on the market for some stunning sparkly jewel-tone shadows, these are absolutely worth taking a look at.
