MAC Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2: Lipstick and Lipglass

For those who don't already know about MAC's Viva Glam program, every cent of the entire selling price of every Viva Glam product sold goes to the MAC AIDS Fund. Every year, MAC appoints a celebrity to be their Viva Glam ambassador to help raise HIV/AIDS awareness. Every Viva Glam lip product that has been launched after Fergie's Viva Glam VI Special Edition in 2009 has been named after the celebrity ambassador of the year, with Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper in 2010, Lady Gaga again in 2011, Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin in 2012, Nicki Minaj again in 2013, Rihanna for 2014, and now Miley Cyrus for 2015. To date, MAC's Viva Glam campaign has raised $350 million globally to help men, women, and children infected and affected by AIDS and HIV.

Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 comes in both lipstick and lip gloss form, and will both launch in-stores tomorrow. Both are limited edition and will be available for six months (subject to change). As with all MAC lip products, they are vanilla-scented but taste-free. Each Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipstick comes in black packaging with the signature Viva Glam red metal casing and Miley's signature printed in black around it. Each Lipglass comes in a clear tube with Miley's signature printed in red around it. Each lipstick contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $20. Each Lipglass comes with a doe-foot applicator, contains 4.8 grams of product, and retails for $18. As they are for charity, none of the Viva Glam products are applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipstick and Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipglass

Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipstick is a medium-dark vibrant warm orange-red in an Matte finish. This is a new and limited edition shade, and will be available for six months going forward. It has a soft and creamy texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It is slightly more orange than Lady Danger, more red than So Chaud, and slightly lighter and creamier than Dangerous.
Viva Glam Miley Cyrus 2 Lipglass is a medium vibrant warm orange-red with gold and silver iridescent sparkle. This is a new and limited edition shade, and will be available for six months going forward. It has a slightly tacky texture, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has medium pigmentation with semi-sheer to semi-opaque colour pay-off. There is nothing similar to this in MAC's permanent range; it is more orange and more pigmented than Love Alert Dazzleglass, more orange and more sparkly than Venetian Lustreglass, and more red and much more sparkly than Cheerful Mineralize Glass.

MAC has a knack for choosing controversial celebrities for their Viva Glam campaigns (e.g. RuPaul, Pamela Anderson, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, etc.), and this year is no different with Miley Cyrus. And as with all the previous celebrity Viva Glam shades, MAC is releasing a second shade for Miley for the second half of the year. I'm sure many people have strong and differing opinions about her, but in the end, if Miley can use her fame and popularity to sell a product that goes directly to charity, I'm all for it. While quite different from the bright fuchsia of the first Miley shade, her second shade is just as universally flattering — it will look good on everyone from fair to deep dark skintones, and pink to yellow complexions. That having been said, anyone who has Lady Danger will probably overlook this shade as Miley Cyrus 2 Lipstick is very similar; the gloss, on the other hand, is much more unique and easy to wear, and I can't think of anything quite similar to it in MAC's permanent range. Either way, they're both worth looking at if you're a fan of orangey reds.

The MAC AIDS Fund is one of the most effective charities I have ever seen a cosmetics company identify with, and it still blows my mind that MAC helps this charity on a daily, on-going basis with their Viva Glam program. Not only that, but they don't just donate a portion or the proceeds to this cause — it's 100% of the selling price of any Viva Glam product. This is a really worthy cause, so if you're not personally a fan of these, it's worth checking out any of the other Viva Glam shades that may be more wearable or flattering on you.

  1. The Miley shades have all been very pretty. I also just like seeing matching lipsticks and glosses for some reason.

    1. Yeah, I think they really did a good job with the Miley shades -- they're way more wearable than the Rihanna and Nicki shades that came out. Although I feel like this type of bright orange is more suitable for summer than for fall/winter.

  2. Do they ever make cremesheen glosses instead of the usual? Lipgloss is just so, so sticky!

    1. LipGLASS - stupid autocorrect.

    2. I don't think they would make Cremesheen Glass for the Viva Glams because of the price point. But I agree, Lipglass can get uncomfortable to wear. :(
