Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette

When Urban Decay announced they were releasing the Vice 2 Palette, I was waiting with bated breath to see the shades. I am always impressed by all of the eyeshadows that Urban Decay comes out with, but 20 brand new and limited edition shades all in one palette that aren't all neutral? (There's a time and a place for the Naked palettes, but this ain't it.) And, of course, having been so impressed with the first Vice Palette, I knew I was going to get this regardless to add to my collection. So, when Sephora announced their VIB sale in November, this was the first thing I snatched up and put in my basket.

The Vice 2 Palette includes 20 brand new and exclusive shades of eyeshadow varying from light to dark and neutral to bright, and comes in several different textures including matte, satin, shimmer, and frost. Every shade contains Urban Decay's Pigment Infusion System, which is "the proprietary blend of ingredients that gives every shade its velvety texture, rich colour, serious staying power, and blendability." The Vice 2 Palette comes in a rubberized rectangular case featuring "a pretty-but-edgy, abstract orchid design that’s applied with a special process — so no two palettes are exactly alike" with Urban Decay's initials in a plastic "crystallized jewel" gothic emblem inlaid the centre, and has a dampened hinge so that the lid stands on its own when opened. Each palette comes with a large mirror encompassing the entire inside of the lid, and a double-ended Good Karma Shadow and Crease Brush. It includes a total of 16 grams of product (0.8 grams per eyeshadow), and retails for $68 CAD.

Top row (left to right): Smokeout, Lovesick, Shellshock, Coax, and X-Rated

Smokeout is a blackened sooty brown-taupe with a sheen in a satin finish. It has a soft, silky, finely-milled texture, and goes on smoothly and evenly. It has high pigmentation and opaque colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is lighter and more brown than Urban Decay Blackout, and warmer and more pigmented than MAC Carbon.
Lovesick is a blackened charcoal with silver micro-glitter in a matte finish. It has slightly drier, stiffer texture, and tends to go on powdery and somewhat faded with some fall-out. It has medium-high pigmentation and semi-opaque to opaque buildable colour pay-off. It can be layered and blended out easily. It is similar to Urban Decay Oil Slick, and more pigmented and more shimmery than MAC Black Tied.

Calling all eyeshadow fiends — get this palette while you still can (especially if you missed out on the first Vice Palette)! With the exception of Lovesick and Prank, which are a little drier and more sheer (and even then, Prank is such a gorgeous, unique shade that it's forgivable that its formula is less than perfect), every shade was smooth, silky, buttery, and pigmented. I've always been impressed with Urban Decay's eyeshadows in general, and this palette is no exception. I love that this palette includes such a variation of colours and textures; they cover light to dark, and neutral to bright, so you can create a plethora of different eye looks. This palette is phenomenal for those who already have a variety of eyeshadows and are looking for a more unique, colourful palette to add to their collection. And, as always, it's a great value. Since Urban Decay's eyeshadows are typically $22, it makes the product worth $15.49 per gram. So this palette that retails at $68 here is technically worth $247.84, and that's not including the brush (which is worth about $25). If you like more than three of these shades, it's already worth getting.

  1. Beautiful shades, but how would you wear those frosty pinks?? Totally too cool for darker Asian skin tones lol

    1. Nah, they're totally wearable! I like using them in a purple smoky eye. I'll put the lightest pink on the inner tear duct and the medium pink on my lid and then put a brighter purple in the crease and then a darker purple in the outer corner. Another way to wear them is to put a light neutral on your lid and then the pink in the crease, if you wanted something lighter. :)

  2. Gah, I am swooning over Toxic. Such a pretty reddish pinkish thing.

But nooooo I don't need this many eye shadows, LOL. I was thinking of doing something uncharacteristic and just buying myself a sparkly MAC pigment for the holidays - like Copper Sparkle!

    1. Haha, I love this damn palette, though, and for 20% off, I just couldn't resist. :P

Copper Sparkle IS a gorgeous pigment, though! I also looooove Tan, Naked, and Melon. <3

    1. Thanks, Liz!!! I admit that it is rather bulky and even though the packaging is lovely, it's not a palette that I would travel with... but goddamn, the colours are GORGEOUS. :D

    1. LMAO! I think that's why I love palettes -- I get lots of choice, but I don't worry about not using all the shades. :P Like, that bright blue is gorgeous, but I don't think I'm going to be using it on a regular basis, lol.
