A couple weeks ago, MAC released a new collection in collaboration with Carine Roitfeld, which features a total of 21 products — eight of which are limited edition, 11 of which are permanent, and two of which are new and will become permanent. Carine Roitfeld sees the release of one shade of lipstick, which is new and limited edition. Each lipstick comes in matte black tubes with Carine Roitfeld's signature imprinted on it, and are packaged in matching card stock boxes. Each lipstick contains 3 grams of product, and retails for $20. Due to the special edition packaging, it is not applicable for the Back to MAC recycling program.

Tropical Mist is a warm peachy beige in a Lustre finish. It is a new and limited edition shade. The texture is soft and creamy, and it goes on smoothly and evenly. It has very low pigmentation and very sheer colour pay-off. It is much sheerer and less pink than Hue, and is slightly more peach than clear Lip Conditioner.
I have no idea who is going to buy this lipstick. It really looks like lip balm when applied, unless you apply it extremely heavily (I'm talking like, ten swipes over the lips), then it gives off a very subtle peachy-beige colour. In terms of colour pay-off, it really lies somewhere in between transparent and translucent. You are seriously better off buying a lip balm, since it'll at least have hydrating properties. There are tinted lip balms that offer way more colour than these. On really dark-toned lips, this will lighten them slightly. But on anyone else, it's pretty much colourless. I don't even know why MAC made this. They should have just released their Lip Conditioner in special packaging instead.
What the heck, Carine??? I'm so disappointed by the quality of this collection. Was really looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, there was so much potential, with the gorgeous, sleek, matte packaging and such an iconic fashionista. You would think they'd do this collection justice, given that Ms. Roitfeld apparently made MAC design everything to her exact specifications, including her very own limited edition shade of Mineralize Concealer (yes, they made a LIMITED EDITION shade of concealer -- NC33, if you're curious). But I just don't understand this lipstick. I guarantee you this lipstick will be at the next Lauder warehouse sale, lol.
